Embracing Floral Prints 1 Petal at a Time!

So as some of you may or may not know, I have returned to work.  After being unemployed for about 5 months, I am happy to be working again in these harsh economic times. Although it makes me sad I won't have as much time as I like for blogging. So I will attempt to maintain my post by doing a few smaller (mini post) during the weekday and probably do my regular post on weekends. Lets see how that works! I took a few outfit post this week to share with you.

Lately I have been seeing lots of floral prints and have been so wanting to try it out. I am always the person who waits to see how it works on others. You try it out first, then I may join along...LOL Call me a chicken or hesitant but I am one to ponder things before I commit! So being that I like to start off small & slow, I found a subtle floral print top to wet my feet into this trend.

eShakti: The Power of a Dress

Dress: eShakti denim & lace ~ Shoes: Faryrlobin peeptoe

Look at my cute eShakti dress! You never heard of eShakti? eShakti is a internet based company that sells clothing from size 0-26. They have so many styles and colors to choose from, you can spend hours on their website. I know I do.  I  got this denim and lace dress courtesy of eShakti.  I have been loving the denim look lately. This dress combines 2 recent trends denim & lace.  I chose to have my dress customized, since eShakti give you the options to order custom sizing. Who else does that! I don't know of many or any clothing retailers that offer to customize your clothes if it doesn't come in your size. The website will guide you on how to measure yourself if you choose to order a custom garment.  I measured my self, which was fine, but if you are able to have a friend or partner help, you should. I had no help and I think I measured wrong. The dress fits great every where except in the bust area. Hence why I am wearing a cami underneath since it didn't button all the way! Other than that little issue, the dress fits great and is very well made. The weight of the fabric is good, not to heavy or thin. I didn't need to wear a slip underneath.  I also loved that the belt was not attached to the dress and you can wear it with other clothes. The length was right  on, just at my knees. The length can also be customized if you want it longer or short, as well the sleeve length. eShakti has so many options, you should definitely check them out. I am planning on ordering from them again, especially since I won a giftcard from Fat Shopaholic, you should check out her website as well she has a very helpful and informative video on how to take your measurements when ordering custom garments.

Overall I loved my dress and despite the bust area not buttoning I found a way to make it work. Nothing losing a few pounds won't fix! eShakti has some lovely new spring and summer dresses I have my eye on.  Hope my review was helpful to you if you have any questions don't be shy to ask or email me.

Also don't for get to enter my giveaway, which closes on May 7th at midnight pst.

Trends & Friends: Rompers

The Trend

Rompers seem to be big this spring. They are a perfect blend of cute, comfy & sassy. Just want every fashionista wants in an outfit! Rompers do seem to be every where, but not everyone is embracing the trend. Some fashionista swore them off, vowing never to wear a romper. I totally know the feeling, when I first saw rompers on the scene it reminded me of being a kid. I was not planning on even attempting to wear a romper. After seeing my fellow bloggers wearing them I gave in. Tried it on, loved it and it worked out. You can check out my romper post here. Before you dismiss this cute trend you should try one on, you maybe surprised. There is lots of options out there for us large & lovely ladies. Take a look at some of my friends who have embraced the romper and making it work for their style!  In my opinion they knocked it out the park. What do you think?

The Friends

Bloomie from 30 Dresses in 30 Days is wearing polka dot romper from Dorothy Perkins. She was a bit hesitant to wear a romper, but rocked it for a party recently. To her surprise everyone liked her romper!

Brandy from All That Glitters is wearing a button front romper from Lane Bryant. She got an early start to spring on a warm day this month.  She got her hair done, was wearing her new romper...she just had to strut!!

Tiffany from Fat Shopaholic is wearing floral romper from Torrid.  She recently was in NYC and had to leave her your mark with floral & bows If you see someone rockin floral prints & bows on the streets of Chicago, its probably Tiffany.  So make you sure say hi!

Thanks to all the lovely ladies who let me showcase their style on my blog. Don't be shy if you want to be a part of trends and friends send me your pics. It makes it so much easier when you volunteer!! Future trends I am looking for are Plaid, Oxfords, Tie Dye & Nude Colors! So I look forward to see all your pictures in my in-box.

LA Fashion Event & VIP Treatment!

Thursday night I had the pleasure of attending a very cool fashion & shopping event in LA. I was invited by The Axis Agency to attend the Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash. It was held at Peterson Auto Museum in LA.  They gave me VIP tickets to the event & also gave my readers a chance to enter a contest to win tickets. Monique from Curves & Chaos got some tickets and attended the event with me. It was my 1st time getting the VIP treatment at an event. All I can say, it was fab! Got a nice little swag bag full of goodies, such as make-up & other beauty products. We also got to test drive 2010 Chevy cars, the Camaro is a sweet ride! Tasted some yummy treats from Sprinkles cupcakes, which are to die for! There was shopping involved, spa treatments & drinks, which is always a plus. I also got to meet Monique from Curves & Chaos, she is very nice & fun to hang out with, us curvy girls have all the fun! The night was a blast and if your in LA, I recommend you attend a Sassy City Chicks event. I believe they have events in other major cities as well and will have another one in LA for the fall.  Check out the website for more details. I have a little video to show you all the fun.

Also have some pictures below to share of my outfit. I recently received my 1st order from Evans.  I love my new Evans dress I ordered. It's very comfy and I am happy with the fit. Sizing was a concern of my since I had no clue how the UK size range was. I think I now know what size to order. The dress was a bit short on me, even though I am not very tall. I wore leggings and boots, since it had rained a bit that day in LA it was a bit chilly. Overall I loved my Evans dress and look forward to getting many more pieces from them. Below are just a few pictures of my outfit & the event.
Also just wanted to say THANK YOU! In case you haven't noticed I am now at 100 followers! You all know what that means, giveaway time! I have a fun & cute giveaway that I will announce very soon. In the mean time you can all go check out Diva In Deep Thought she has 2 very cool giveaways on her blog.

Hello to my new followers and thanks to all my loyal readers. You ladies are awesome! I look forward to meeting more of you lovely bloggers.

Trends & Friends: Maxi Dress

Maxi dresses are back! They have been around for a few years.  Seems like every year when spring/summer comes around they start to reappear.  What is it that we love about them? Maybe it's the comfort, maybe it's the flowiness.  Maybe they are just cute & look good on almost everyone. Except me....LOL  This season there is a new crop of Maxi dresses, from strapless, tube top, halter or even long sleeve. If you love maxi dresses, there is a style for you. You can be casual & cozy wearing it with sandals & flip flops or jazz it up for a evening out on the town. I may give them another try this year, no promises. Do take a look at my friends looking oh so lovely and comfy in their maxi dresses. If they don't tempt you to try this trend then no one else will.  Enjoy!

The Friends

Nik from XOXO NikStar is wearing Pure Engery Maxi from Target. The girl can't help it with those poses, it's the model in her! She sure knows how to rock a maxi dress.

Valerie from Blog to Be Alive is wearing tube top maxi from Torrid.  She was feature in Vivelesrondes, she showed off her closet and some of her favorite outfits. No surprise her maxi dress made the cut, it's comfy & cute. Two major requirements for most woman.

Lori from Mad Lori is wearing maxi dress from Meijer, she went in for groceries and came out with a cute dress. Don't you love those kinds of shopping trips!

Gabi from Hungry for Fashion is wearing maxi dress from Forever 21. She loves warm weather, because she gets to wear her maxi, but she hates the allergies it brings. No worries Gabi allergies and all you look fab in your maxi!

Hope you enjoyed this weeks Trends & Friends. I love showing off all your great outfits. So if you want to be featured, don't be shy email your pics. Future T&F post will include rompers, plaid, brogues/oxfords. So please send me your pics or a link where I can find your look.
Just to show you that maxi don't work well for me here is a look from last summer. I loved the colors, but felt it didn't look great on me.

Weekend Review: 100th post, when bloggers meet!

YAY! It's my 100th post! Can't believe I made it this far. Thanks to all the lovely readers and followers. I truly appreciate everyone's support and comments.  I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy reading some of your blogs. Having said that this weekend I had the pleasure of meeting 2 great and beautiful fellow bloggers.  The beautiful Nik from XOXO NikStar was in Los Angeles visiting her boyfriend. It was her 1st trip to LA. Since she was in town, I had to take advantage and meet her. Nik & I actually started tweeting with each other around the beginning of last year (2009) even before either one of us started blogging. So we are old friends  now!  I also got to met the lovely Jen from Passion for Plus Size Fashion & everyone's favorite eBay seller (JensFashionPlus)  We all met up in my neighborhood of Long Beach, Belmont Shore. Had lunch and cupcakes!  It was so nice and fun to meet, we talked about blogging and everything in between. Had some laughs and just enjoyed each other company!  It was great to see the faces behind the blogs and everyone's favorite plus size shop owner Jen.  Here is a little video I made to recap our meet up.

(you will be redirected to view video, sorry for inconvenience)

I hope to one day meet many more of you and share a similar experience.  Also wanted to remind  you that once I hit 100 followers on the blog, I have a giveaway.  So I would appreciate your support and help. Let your friends know about my blog, I'm only 5 followers away. Promise you won't be disappointed with the prize.
Thank you!

TGIF! Lots of pictures ahead!

Happy Friday! Hoping everyone had a great week, looking forward to an even better weekend! I'm back home now from my mini vacay/road trip to San Diego.  Spent a few days with in SD for the BF's birthday, we didn't do much sightseeing, but we did shop and eat!  I love SD, its an awesome city, so glad its a short drive away.  I was a lame-o and forgot that one of my fave bloggers Big Beautyful Mess lives in SD.  I didn't have a chance to meet up with her since I forgot to let her know I was gonna be in town. She was a sweetie and gave  me good tips on where to eat and shop. We took some of her tips and had a some yummy food.  Also checked out all the local malls and outlets.  Some times it amazes me at some deals I find and can't believe it! Seriously if you shop around and look you can score some great stuff.  The weather was perfect too, it was a beautiful sunny & breezy all week!  Over all it was a great trip! I tried to take pics of all my outfits to share with you. When I travel I try to wear comfy clothes and shoes.  I love to explore new cities so that means lots of walking, so comfy shoes and clothes are a must. Also traveling light is good for me since I will be doing some shopping, so gotta leave some room in my luggage.

Now for the shopping! I always say I am going to share my bargain finds & don't! :(  boo bad blogger.  So finally here you go, my bargain finds from San Diego.  I have been wanting some top siders (boat shoes) for awhile now. When I saw them at the Nordstrom Rack I had to have them! Aren't they cute! Well I think so, they are denim and oh so comfy! The price was right so they came home with me.  The flats from Old Navy are not my typical buy, but at that price ($3.50), who could say no.  Also scored a lip gloss from Rock & Republic at The Rack, who knew they made awesome makeup as well! It's a really nice reddish color, I have been searching for a red gloss.
I also got some clothes from Old Navy, they were having their irresistible 50% off clearance sale! Who can resist, I know I cant! 2 dress and 1 top & the flats (above) all for $25. Come on, who can say no to that deal! Also got a cute stripey top at Lane Bryant and Paper, Denim & Cloth jeans. Didn't even know they made plus size jeans. I am all for premium jeans, just don't want to pay those premium prices. These jeans were prefect , premium brand for $20, Score! There you have it, that was my shopping haul from San Diego. I think the grand total was like $80 for all the things above.  Must say, damn I am good at bargain shopping! LOL

Now to the outfit pictures! We were only in San Diego for 2 days so I just made little colleges to share with you. Added some pictures of my man as well since he looked so cute in all his bday outfits!
My man in his birthday outfits! He was trying to pose like me in the pictures....LOL

San Diego Day 1: We shopped and had dinner at Fashion Valley Mall, they have all the best stores there high end and the usual mall stores.  It's a beautiful out door mall, the weather was nice sunny with a breezy, it got a bit chilly so I had to wear my scarf.  My fave picture is the one in front of  the LV store, can you see me pinning over the LV handbags! LOL

Outfit Stats: Tunic Dress from Lane Bryant, Leggings Pure Energy from Target, Scarf from H&M & Flats Wanted from Marshalls.

San Diego Day 2: This day we headed to downtown gas lamp quarter. Again more shopping and sightseeing. It's was another gorgeous day, SD has great weather, love it! It was our last day so we tried to take advantage as much as possible. I was so tired by the end of the day! It was a great trip, I highly recommend a visit to San Diego if you ever have the chance!

Outfit Stats: Pure Energy Top from Target, Boy Friend Jeans from Lane Bryant, Sandals from H&M

Sorry for the long post, I hope you enjoyed it. As I mentioned on my last post I am aiming at reaching 100 follower by May 1st. I'm so close only need 8 more! I have a great giveaway to go along with reaching my 100th follower.  The sooner I get there the sooner I will reveal it! I give a hint, its prize that will fit everyone!

In the mean time head over to Curvy Girl Chic to enter her giveaway. She has a fabulous prize, I am hoping to win! LOL

A few things to say

Hello! Hope everyone had a great weekend! I won't do a weekend review today, since my  weekend involved me getting sick and wasn't very good.  I will spare you the details because they are quite gross.....LOL

Today is my boyfriends birthday so, we are going out of town to celebrate for a few days.

A quick shout out to my boo.....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Since I will be out of town I won't be doing a Trends & Friends post this week. Ah how sad! I know I am a little sad too, since I have gotten a lot of great feed back and comments from everyone.  Next week I will be back with a new Trends & Friends. In the mean time I would love to feature more people on F&T, you don't have to have a blog to be featured, just need your pictures and info.  Future trends I will be working on are: rompers, plaid, maxi dresses, brogues/oxfords. My goal is to have a 100th post & 100th follower giveaway.  I don't have any details about the prize but I will try and make it really good and worth it for everyone.  So as my birthday is approaching my wish is ,I would love to reach my 100th follower goal by May 1st. Sunny Days in Romper Room!

The weather in California this past week has been super duper! We had a few warm days in the 80's!  I just had  to enjoy them and headed to the beach one day (impromptu beach trip)   I also took advantage to wear my romper from Lane Bryant!  These past days I have felt like a kid, from playing around on the beach, to wearing my romper.  All that came to mind was the Sesame Street theme song and Romper Room.  Now I know some of you have to remember the show Romper Room & Magic Mirror from the 80's. If not, then damn I am old! Some days you just have to leave all your worries behind and enjoy life!  That's what the Sesame Street song reminds me of, simple times with no worries, being young and enjoying life!

Here a few pictures from my beach day on Wednesday, which was not planned so don't laugh at what I am wearing.  My BF & I literally said lets go to the beach and we got some towels and took off!  I live a short 5 minute drive from the beach and sadly don't enjoy it enough!  Since I have been living here, for the past year and a  half I have only been to the beach 3 times. Boo!  This summer I will try and go more often and work on my tan.  Look at my legs, they are in dire need of some color!

Thursday we I went to check out the H&M sale.  They had lots of good deals for $5, $10 & $15! I 'll show you what I got later.  I wore my romper from Lane Bryant.  I was a bit iffy about rompers at first, then I decided to try it.  I must say they are comfy. I do have a few things I did not like. Not sure if its just my issue or if other people also had the same issues.  First of all if you plan to go shopping and try clothes on, do not wear a romper. Its a pain to take on and off. So going to the bathroom as well was a challenge!  It did move around a bit and rise up on me, so I had a to adjust a few times.  Over all I like it and it was comfortable, good for warm days.  I probably won't go out and buy any more rompers. One in my wardrobe is enough for me!

Trends & Friends: Lace

The Trend

Yours Clothing $53.20

Torrid $34.00

(available in ivory & black)
Lane Bryant $29.50

Evans 35.00 gbp

Dorothy Perkins 28.00 gbp

Lace is every where right now and a big trend for spring/summer.  Lace is typically thought of as being dainty & feminine or something your grandma would wear.  Well not any more, fashion is cyclical  and lace has made a comeback in a modern form.  Today's lace is still feminine but with an edge. You can wear lace leggings to show a sexier side or wear a lace blazer to add a more modern edge.  The classic lace dresses have also been updated and you can find them in all silhouettes to fit your style. Whether it be full lace or just touches of lace, this trend is catching on.  Check out my lovely friends wearing their lacy outfits. Don't they look smashing!

The Friends
Lauren from The Pocket Rocket is wearing lace overlay dress from Dorothy Perkins. She was not to sure about the lace dress, but now its her favorite and she loves it!

Amanda from Fashion, Love & Martinis is wearing floral lace illusion dress from eShakti.  She loves her lace dress, its her spring awakening outfit. "fresh, flirty, short, and fabulous; what more could a girl ask for?"

Yolanda from Diva in Deep Thought is wearing lace leggings from Lucie Lu.  She is  looking  divalicious with her Dorthy Perkins dress in that awesome green color.

Beth from Pretty in Plus is wearing lace leggings from Yours Clothing. She paired the leggings with a fun sweater dress and pearls, adding a touch of flirtatiousness to her outfit.

Thank  you to all the lovely ladies who allowed me to feature them in my blog this week.  This weekly post is turning out to be a favorite of mine. I look forward to seeing all of you in your fabulous trends each week.  Don't be shy, if you have a great outfit and want me to feature it on my trends & friends, just email it to me.  You can also contact me on twitter, I'm always there!

Weekend Review: The Shoes, The Art & The ER!

Doing this post a bit late this Monday night, but I wanted to share my weekend with everyone.  I will make it a quick post! I had a busy weekend, although it wasn't really planned that way. It started on Friday with the shoes.

I bought these shoes at Payless, had not shopped there in years. I went to Payless to check out the Christian Siriano shoes.  I ended finding these wedges, I love them! They are not too crazy, but still have a bit of edge, for me any how.  The heel height is perfect and they are very comfortable.  I wanted to wear them on Friday with a new dress.  When I came out of the room to show my man my outfit, he mad the worst face. You would think he was smelling something very foul! No foul smell, he just hated  my shoes and did not hesitate to hide it. Not sure why but he hates wedges, and he hates the gold accents on these shoes. He is sometimes very critical about what I wear and doesn't hold his tongue about it. I got very upset and took off the wedges and threw them at him! I said "fine I'll just burn them since you hate them so much." Very dramatic!  Oh boy! That set the tone for the whole weekend, it was gonna be a interesting!

I ended up wearing these brown sandals instead from H&M, can you see the disappointed in my face? I did not smile for the rest of the day!

I had done a post early in the week about Torrid's 50% off clearance sale at the Torrid Outlet. I made a public announcement to all my So Cal, bloggers, and fashionistas to join me at the outlet.  Well the response was not what I expected. I forgot it was going to be Easter weekend and lots of people already had plans. I also had plans, that I forgot about. So sadly I didn't make it to the Torrid Outlet! Oh well there is always next time. I will keep you posted. My plans for Saturday were as follows: My BFF had a party for her son and after I was attending an art exhibit. My nephew is a artist and he was going to participate in his first exhibit! Yes I am a very proud aunt and love to share his talent. He is still young and learning, but he has been drawing and painting since he was able to hold a crayon. I have a few pictures to share. The art show was called Jesus his life in art, which was about the influence of religion in art. Several well know from Los Angeles participated along with my nephew.  Not his usual subject he paints about but I think he did a great job.

Don't mind my face, it was late and I was tired, not drunk! Can you tell curls run in my family, he also got his aunts good looks! LOL  Being this is a fashion blog, (sorry didn't get a full body shot) I was wearing my new boyfriend jeans from Lane Bryant, sequin butterfly top from H&M, with my Old Navy blazer & you can't see them but I wore the above mentioned wedges from payless!

Sunday was Easter and traditionally in my family we all get together and have a BBQ. This year was no different, I went over to my parents house to celebrate with my parents, siblings and nieces/nephews.  We were all enjoying a delicious carne asada, with beans and rice freshly made by my momma. It was delicious! My 12 year old niece was missing, she was in her room and had not come out for a while. It was a bit odd, since she is also my god daughter and always attacked me when I visited. We called her to come out to eat and she said she was busy. After an hour of being in her room while we were all out enjoying our food. I knew something was up! Sure enough, after it was all said and done we got to the bottom of the drama. She was hiding because she had pierced her lip! She had tried to do it a few weeks ago and we caught her and she was told she is not allowed at 12 to have a piercing other than her ears. Well the smarty pants wanted to "see if her hole had not closed". She had bought another lip ring and put it on. After all the arguing and yelling for her to remove it, we found out it was stuck. I am not familiar with lip piercings but I guess once you put it on it's not as easy to remove. More than she disobeyed her mother and pierced her lip, we were worried about infections.  A do it yourself piercing at home by a 12 yr old does not seem to be the best or safest way to have it done. So off we went to ER, to make this post short after I promised a short post. It was removed by the doctor in the ER, she recieved a tetnus shot and antibiotics.

After this busy weekend, I feel drained, physically and emotionally. Sometimes I just want to stay home and veg out with my snuggie.  I love to see and spend time with my family and friends, but sometimes I need a break from them as well. I hope you all a great weekend with no drama.
