Review: Betsey Johnson Prescription Glasses

So I finally got a new pair of glasses, after losing them last year.  I was at football game & had the glasses on my head, with all the commotion and fun I having they fell off some where.  I was so bummed out I lost my glasses, luckily I had my old pair as a back up.  I was due for a new pair, my glasses were a few years old and my boyfriend thought were too dorky & not fashionable.  I also needed a new pair of prescription sunglasses so I finally went to the optometrist and got my eye exam.  Since I no longer have medical insurance I had to pay for exam and glasses my self.  I went to Costco for both, exam and glasses.  Check out my video, to see the cool prescription designer glasses I was able to score at Costco.  They have lots of great designers to choose from at great prices.

Side note: Video was done with my boyfriends new DSLR Canon EOS Rebel T1i camera that has HD video. He wanted to test out, what you think. Leave your thoughts and comments!

Forever 21, Mia Tyler & Me!

This past weekend on January 23, 2010 Forever 21 open its newest flagship store in Cerritos, CA.  So obviously I went for the grand opening. The new F21 store promised to be bigger and better than all the rest. Yes it is! The store is huge taking over an old Mervyn's inside the Cerritos Mall, 2  floors  busting with all the collections they offer.  The store had all the collections: Heritage 1981 (men & women), Love 21, 12 by 12, Twist, and even the new resort collection. Along with a huge jewelry selection, shoes and other accessories.  The store also had a large make up & cosmetics section which is new line love and beauty.  Last but not least they have the faith 21 plus size, or as F21 calls it "extended sizes."  I obviously went to the new flagship store to check out the faith 21 line, after seeing online they had added 3x to the collection.  Also being a brand new store I expected and hoped they had a large variety of styles and sizes. The faith 21 section was upstairs in a corner like in most other stores, but a bit larger and more variety.  I must admit I got a bit excited, the store is big, bright and over flowing with all the forever 21 goodies! Being it was the grand opening it was so crowded, and full of shoppers, you could hardly browse through the racks.  I did manage to find a few items that caught my eye, I wanted to try on, but the lines for the dressing room were out of control.  They did have many items specially marked for the grand opening so I picked up a few and bought them with out trying them on...risky I know.   Especially since I was told they were considered clearance and final sale. Go figure new items at the opening of a new store sold as clearance. Oh well I took the risk!

Yesterday on twitter I saw someone retweet a tweet from Mia Tyler, the tweet said "Come keep me company if you are near the Cerritos Mall... I'll be shopping and filming for the pilot of my new show too!!" Mia Tyler was there with the winner of the fatih 21 most stylish girl contest. The winner Jenna Riot, and Mia Tyler shopping as well being filmed for Mia's new reality show. No details about the reality show yet.  Both girls looked beautiful and stylish, actually Jenna looked a bit like Mia, when I first saw her in the store I thought she was Mia.  I sadly did not get a picture of either girls, I did get to talk with Jenna briefly as she shopped.  I commented on her awesome booties she was wearing.  Jenna was very nice and friendly, she looked very happy and excited to be shopping with Mia.  Like I said I was not able to take pictures of either of them, nor do I have more details about Mia Tyler's reality show, but I am sure she will tweet more info so be on the look out. Hey maybe you see me in the show, shopping in the background of the forever 21!  HA! probably not but, I did get to shop and finally try on some things I have been stocking from faith 21.  Some I bought some I did not, still on the fence about a dress.  Take a look a my picks and help me decide if I should buy or pass!
All pics were taken with my iphone, so the quality is not the best, but you get the idea!

Sweet Couple Dress $22.80
Flower Shrug not online, forgot the price. Did not buy it was not sure if looked good on me, maybe its too short!

Black pyramid stud leggings $19.80
Not online either, but I loved them and will definitely get them.

Got it for $15, grand opening special

Gray Cardigan Vest w/ razor back not online either $15 grand opening special

Plus size elastic stud belt $5.80 (not online) this was the only belt they had in the faith 21 line at the store

These are some of my finds at faith 21, there are few more things I will get once payday comes around!  When the line fist debuted I was a bit disappointed in the sizing and selection, but forever21 is getting better, so I gave them another chance. LOL
I love to hear your comments & thoughts about shopping at forever 21.

Desert Boots & Boat Shoes which style will you wear?

Spring is just around the corner and all the fashion magazines are full of all the spring must haves and trends.  One trend I have notice in magazines and stores are desert boots and boat shoes.  These 2 styles of shoes are not new, but seem to be making a come back.  Sarah Jessica Parker was seen on the streets of NYC wearing a pair of desert boot and looking fabulous as always.  The boots look so stylish on SJP, like she just threw them on and ran out the door.  The desert boots look comfy and cozy.  Both trends can be hit or miss depending who and how you wear them.  Lately I have noticed many trends are making a second or even third visit to the fashion world.  Not all trends are great the second time around and not everyone looks fab wearing them like SJP.
I have thought about buying some boat shoes, had some in the past like the 80's. Boat shoes were also spotted on some of the runway shows for the Spring 2010 ready to wear collections, like Karen Walker on Style.com.  Worn with dresses and pants looking very chic and stylish. Again I think not everyone can rock this look and look fashionable.  I will wait and see what my spring wardrobe end up looking like before I take the plunge on any of these trends. So until then here are a few shoes for you to ponder and decide if you will follow this trend.  Leave me your comments and thought about this trend, will you try it or skip it?

Got Curve?

In case you haven't heard by now. UK retailer Asos has launched their plus size line called Curve.
You will probably see this post repeated in many other blogs, but its worth repeating.  Since I started blogging last year, I became aware of all the great plus size clothing lines and retailers from the UK.  I have not yet ordered anything from Asos's Curve line, but so far I like what I see.  I like the simplicity of the clothing, clean lines and basic silhouettes.  I am not to big on crazy prints or complicated styles that are too trendy. Curve seems right up my alley, the pricing also seems reasonable.  Not sure on the cost of shipping, but when I did the rate exchange it was with in my budget.  If you have have ever ordered from any UK retailers, let me know what your experience was. I would love to hear about it, before I decide to order.  So here are a few of my faves so far, that I am adding to my spring wish list from Asos's Curve.
What are you thoughts about the Asos Curve line, Love it, Hate it or Don't Care?

*All prices are shown in US dollars from currency converter on Asos website. Actual price may vary.

Sunday Best

Hope everyone is having a fabulous Sunday.  Today I wanted to share a website I found, about hats.  I love hats, although I don't wear them much, mostly because of my hair, having long curly hair is not good for hats.  They just don't fit right and I don't think they go well with my round face. When I saw the hats from Bijou Van Ness I immediately thought of all those great old movies where women would dress to the nines on Sundays for either church, tea time or just day out.  You don't see to many movies like that any more or women wearing hats at all.  One day I will buy a hat and get all dolled up and go have tea! In the mean time check out Bijou Van Ness for all the awesome hats they have.  I picked a few of my favorites to share with you.
So when was the last you wore a hat? Leave me your thoughts and comments.

Big Girl (You are Beautiful)

I'm always on the hunt for new things to post and share with my followers. I spend many days and nights scouring the internet, so today I wanted to share a music video to go along with yesterdays post. I found this on facebook actually while viewing a fan page called Revista Curvilineas, a fan page for curvy women in Mexico.  It's good to see the plus size movement is universal, no matter what country you live in or what language you speak "big girls are beautiful"
Don't Forget to check out my sales post, new items being added this weekend.
Leave me your comments, let me know what you think about my post. Enjoy!!

You Are Beautiful!

Doing my daily blog reading and browsing the internet I came across a new blog. Operation Beautiful, the name got my attention, the story behind it made me smile.  I'm always on the look out for new blogs to read, I like to see what other people are writing about and thinking. When I discovered Operation Beautiful, it made me so happy.  In a nutshell Operation Beautiful is a project, that Caitlin started by putting anonymous notes in random places for women to see. The notes all say things like "you are beautiful" "hi beautiful" & "you are beautiful just the way you are" (my favorite)
The Mission of Operation Beautiful is to stop the "fat talk."  Many women have so much self negative talk & thoughts about them selves that it can turn toxic and hurtful emotionally & mentally. The object of Operation Beautiful is make every woman realize she is BEAUTIFUL, no matter what size, color. shape. race or age she may be. Check out Operation Beautiful and see for  yourself that you are Beautiful no matter what any one has ever said. I love the idea and I hope you every woman, helps spread the message.

Chunky Chic Boutique!

It's finally here! I have been mentioning doing a sales post for weeks or maybe even months. The past month has been busy, as I am sure it has for everyone else. The holidays are now over, which is some what of a relief.  I finally was able to work on my sales post.  I use to be a seller on eBay, and was doing OK, but since I started back in 2003 things have changed. The eBay changes have not always been for the good of the seller, in my opinion. Rates for posting items have increased and too many rules & regulations have made it more limiting and not so beneficial for me to sell on eBay.  So in order to continue doing my sales I decide to attempt to sell my items here through my blog.  Not having to deal with all the eBay fees & restrictions I hope to offer my buyers better deals.  I am also going to focus on selling items that appeal to my readers/followers which is the plus size fashion community.  I have started to take pictures of my current stock of items and put it all on a slide show via picasa. Instead of posting pictures on this or any other post, it will be available to view continuously on my blog. Go to my Chunky Chic Boutique to view all the items I have for sale now.  I will be adding new item on a weekly basis, all prices listed will include shipping & handling w/ tracking # for buyers in the USA only. I will ship outside USA, but please inquire about shipping cost for your country. Most of my items are new with tags, some may not have tags which I will disclose and I may also offer a few pre-owned or vintage items as well.  I will be open and consider any reasonable offer for most items, but for the most part prices are set, unless you are just dying to have a certain piece I will most likely take a good offer.  All payment should be made via PayPal, which I prefer & will take money order if you ask for any sale of $25 or more.  Email me with the item # & brief description and I will send you an invoice via PayPal or info where to send the money order.  Once payment has be received and cleared I will ship you item and email you tracking # for your package.  I have had a great track record on my eBay with 100% feedback so I hope to continue to offer you the same services. Since I am located in Southern California, I am lucky to have so many great resources for plus size fashion. If there is ever a specific item or you are looking for a certain style of clothing I will be more than happy to take your request. Please feel free to email me with any questions, regarding anything I am currently selling (measurements, type of fabric, additional pic or any other info) as well as request for other items you would like to see in my shop.
Thank you! CC

Fashion forecasts for 2010 - latimes.com

Today while I was reading the LA Times, Image section, I came across this article.
Fashion forecasts for 2010 - latimes.com

Its a fashion forecast for 2010, what we can expect to see this new year. Topping the list is Forever21. with new stores opening across the country, seems like F21 is taking charge of the fashion industry with its low cost fashion.  Last year F21 debuted its plus size line called Faith 21, and is now working it's way into the tween/kids fashions. The retailer has become more popular with the bad economy F21 offers fashionable pieces in affordable prices for everyone.  Another forecast in fashion for 2010, is all things Alice.  Alice in Wonderland remake by Time Burton will be released in the Spring.  The movie brings us fashion inspiration of Alice, and all its characters.  Article speaks of designer who will be unveiling or having collections inspired by the beloved characters of Carroll Lewis Alice in Wonderland.  Home shopping networks have grown in popularity as well and the LA Times article reminds us of all the designer collection available.  Many designers have collaborated with home shopping based retailers like QVC & HSN to offer their designs exclusively. Gone are the days of home shopping networks selling tacky ceramics and useless gadgets. Today you can buy everything from fashionable clothing, shoes, accessories, make-up & everything in between. QVC has also made it more accessible to the all by offering a wider range in sizing for all their designer collections. Read the article for more fashion forecast of 2010.
This new decade seems promising on the fashion horizon, especially for plus size fashion. I am looking forward to all the great things to come. Since I started this blog in March 2009, I have learned about so many great designer and retailers for plus size fashion that I did not know existed.  I have grown this past year and have become more confident in my style and what I wear.  I hope to continue to blog about new fashions and designers for plus size.
