LA has Curves & Cocktails

LA brings out the best curvy ladies in town at the Curvy Cocktails hosted by LA Fatshion Bloggers and The Curvy Collective.  We kicked off Full Figured Fashion Week(end) with a meet and greet for all the attendees and the locals coming to FFF Week.  All the ladies (and gentleman) looked fabulous and were so happy to meet each other. Some meeting in person for the first time, having only been twitter or facebook buddies.  We had cocktails and caught up on all the latest fashion and gossip. We also have some cool raffle prizes donated from Torrid, Sonsi, Ardell, China Glaze, Kurvee and Bali.  All the ladies  who attended were treated to a little gift bag full of nail polish, eyelashes and facial products to help them stay gorgeous through out the weekend.

I finally got to meet some ladies from NYC and East Coast, like Madeline from Plus Model Mag, the gorgeous  model Fulvia, along with  Ms. Gwen Devoe the wonderful creator of FFF Week(end). Also some local LA bloggers who came out to show support for the curvy cause. Don't you just love that!  Over all it was a successful night and we all had a great time.  Can't wait to do it all again next year. Right? LA needs FFF Week(end) to return.  Check out some pics of all the ladies having fun. Enjoy!

On Saturday October 23, 2010 I attended the 5th Annual Love Your Body in West Hollywood.  I am sure you have heard me tweet about it and post on Facebook as well.  Well the day finally came and it was great.  Love Your Body is basically a day for all woman to come together and accept themselves and body as they are. Its a day where all woman can come together and acknowledge our beauty despite what the media or fashion industry portrays as beautiful.  This event was very empowering for all woman. It was great to see woman of all ages from little girls to elderly woman, of all sizes and ethnicity.  The day was hosted by ANTM winner Whitney Thompson and Chenese Lewis.  The day consisted of vendors, performers and ended with a fabulous runway fashion show.  It was a great Saturday afternoon where no matter what size you are and where you are from all woman were made to feel beautiful and special. I got a chance to meet some very confident and smart woman all who are working hard to make a difference. On Sunday there was also a body image panel discussion. "Panelist share their personal and professional experiences with eating disorders, body image issues, and size discrimination. Discussion will include personal stories and resources for support and how to take action."

I didn't make it to the panel discussion, because I have been feeling sick but I am looking forward to hearing all about it from other attendees.  Overall Love Your Body Day was great and uplifting experience.  I will definitely attend next year and if your in the LA area so should you.  Below are some pictures from the day I took.  Enjoy!!

Hey Thats Me: My Plus Model Debut!

Real Woman Wear SWAK

I am so excited to share this with everyone, about 10 days ago Curvy Girl Chic and I were a part of this new project with Sealed With A Kiss Designs.  We were real woman models, for some of SWAK's fall collection pieces.  It was a great experience and I'm so happy to have shared with 2 really fun ladies, Allison and Sarah.  I just got an email from Sarah, Marketing director of  SWAK, our photos are up on the website.  The photos look great, well at least I think so. We are not "models" but with the hair and make up we received, we look pretty darn cute I must say!  We each got to style 4 different looks, with our own individual accessories. You can view my photos HERE.  You can also go to the SWAK website and take look a at the entire campaign. Let me know what you think.  If you are attending Full Figured Fashion Week(end) you  will be able to see SWAK Designs up close and personal as they will be part of the finale fashion show.

Real Woman Rock!

Do you love your body!

Body image issues is a sensitive subject among the plus size community. I would say negative body image is something all women deal with no matter what size they are. Even though there has been a significant movement in size acceptance and the plus size fashion community, I think many of us still deal with not loving our bodies. I know it has taken me personally 30 plus years to accept my curves and be ok with it! I am not gonna lie and say I am 100% happy with my body, but I don't hate it!  I embrace my body the way it is and work with what I got! I know we all have those areas we want to improve upon. But waking up everyday having negative thoughts about your self and your body is not a good way to live. I have been so much happier ever since I decided to accept my self & my body as it is. It's a daily battle, self acceptance doesn't happen over night, but it can happen. You will be much happier with your self and your life once you decide to love your body no matter what size you are!

You are BEAUTIFUL just way you are!

A good way to start loving your self and your body is to attend  Love Your Body Day!
"Love Your Body Day is a celebration of healthy body images for women and girls of all ages presented by Hollywood NOW and co-sponsored by the city of West Hollywood"

Come celebrate with Chenese Lewis President of Hollywood NOW & celebrity host Whitney Thompson winner of America's Next Top Model.  I will be there along with many other bloggers representing the LA Fatshion Bloggers, who are a media sponsor of this awesome event.  If you live in the Los Angeles & So Cal area you need to come and join us. All events are free and you will not only learn about loving your self just the way you are, but will also get a chance to meet a lot of really great people.  What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Hollywood!

So who's coming?

I WANT TO SEE YOU THERE!

Let me know if your attending so I can meet you and chat!

So your gonna be there right? :)

*I'm no expert on self acceptance, these are only my views and opinions and not affiliate to Love You Body Day and any one associated with this event.  Just in case you wondering! :)

In-Vest-ment Pieces

Lane Bryant DKNY vest - Torrid lace top - Pure Energy distressed jeggings - Vigotti lace up boots

Yes another DKNY outfit, seems like me and Donna have been hanging out a lot lately.  When I first checked out the DKNY collection at Lane Bryant, this anorak vest caught my eye right away.  I knew it belonged in my closet and would be a great fall addition. The picute on the website didn't do it justice, it looks and feels so much better in person. I went to my local Lane Bryant and tried it on.  Yup it was love at first try, it felt very comfy and the quality is great too.  Very sturdy and thick, but not to heavy and with a hood, will be good for those rainy fall days. Decided to take it out for a spin Saturday night, it was a chilly fall night and we had a few sprinkles so the hood was great to have.  I paired the vest with 2 other new items, pure energy distressed jeggings, and Torrid lace tee both from the clearance section...you all know I love my clearance racks! Maybe I should rename this blog the Cid's Clearance File, seems like lots of my wardrobe comes from there.....LOL Well I don't look like I'm all clearance so I guess I am good!! Hey a girls got do make it work with what she's got. So its either spend full price and only buy 1 or 2 things, or be a bargain fashionista and have lots of cute stuff! I prefer the latter!

I have friends who hate to wait for things to go on sale or clearance so they pay full price for everything...makes them feel good about them selves. Well I feel great about my self in my bargain fashions! :)

So are you a bargain/clearance fashionista or a full price retail diva?

Here we go round the Mulberry bag!

If you follow me on twitter you probably read all my tweets this weekend about my hunt for the Mulberry for Target bags.  Being that most of the designer collabs from Target are clothing and do not come in plus sizes, there for no bueno for me. When I heard about the Mulberry and Target collab, I was excited. Finally a designer collab I can partake in, we all can partake in. No matter the size we all can have a designer handbag. I set my alarm and dragged the boo along to Target at 7:30am. I was first in the door when they opened at 8am.  I had to make sure I got my Mulberry bags.  They had already sold out some styles on the Target website. Didn't want this one to get away!

Take a look at this video we made of our hunt and haul of Mulberry for Target bags!

Don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel and comment and/or like my videos!

Who else got the stash? What do you think of the Mulberry for Target bags?

Date Night with DKNY

I don't really go out much at night time on the weekends, so when I do it feels special.  Had a date night with my boo and went out for a late dinner to a new Cuban restaurant. We had a yummy dinner with some Cuban coffee, love it! Although the weather has been some what crazy with record heat one day to pouring rain the next.  Sometimes a challenge getting dressed.  I really do love the weather in California, but living hear you need to have your spring, summer, fall and winter clothes available year round.  You just never know if it will be 113 degrees or 65 degrees (yes 65 is really cold for L.A. OK! LOL)  The night was perfect with clear skies and just a bit of chill.  Took advantage of the chilly weather to wear my new DKNY jacket from Lane Bryant.  I decide to go check out the collection in person after seeing it online.  I liked a few pieces but the prices were way higher than some of the regular LB pieces.  Luckily I had a rewards cheque and coupon so it made the deal even sweeter.  I got the jacket pictured and the army green vest (can't wait to wear it).  I liked other DKNY pieces from LB but definitely won't pay the full price. I'll wait for the sales or more coupons to get a few other things.

 DKNY Jacket from LB
Skinny Jeans from Asos
Gray Asos tee under jacket
Michael Kors Boots via Marshalls
Gray Bag from H&M
Prescription Glasses Betsey Johnson
(forgot I had them on, I never take pics with my glasses)

Have any of you lovely readers purchased any DKNY from LB?
Has anyone tried any thing on, what did you think?

Kisses, Lashes and Fashion

On Wednesday October 6, 2010 I had the pleasure of being invited to a photo shoot at SWAK Designs.  Curvy Girl Chic and I were invited to come in to their headquarters and get the full model treatment.  We got hair and make up done, and wore 3 looks from their fall collections to be photographed in.  Purpose of the photo shoot is to show real woman wearing their clothes.  The whole experience was so fun, it was my 1st time doing any thing like this.  Let me tell you it wasn't as easy as it looks.  I have totally new found respect for models. We got hair and make up done, had to change in and out of clothes quickly, rush to the set and figure out poses.  Whew! That's hard work......LOL  We also got to meet 2 beautiful lovely plus size models, Melissa Parker and Jenna Sabatino. I am very excited to see the results of the pictures.  I will definitely share them here on the blog, you can all be the 1st to see my model debut! LOL Now if I was only a few inches taller....nah I will stick to just being the model for my blog.

Me, Sarah, and Curvy Girl Chic

When I got home and told my BF about my experience, he was impressed with my make up.  Oh yeah forgot to mention I got false eye lashes for the 1st time as well.  WOW what a difference they make on your eyes. I LOVED IT! Seriously didn't want to take them off when I came home. I felt so sexy batting my eye lashes...LOL The boo made a little video since he loved my make up and lashes as well.  Just a little video for fun, hope you enjoy it. Thanks to everyone for reading the blog and watching my videos.  In case you didn't know I have a YouTube channel, would love it if you all subscribed and commented.

Thank you to Sarah, Marketing Director of SWAK for inviting me participate in the photo shoot.

Blushing Sunday

On a lazy Sunday afternoon, comfy, casual and stylish was my goal.

Sundays are usually my lazy days just hanging out with my boo and running errands.  I like to dress as comfy as possible yet looking as stylish as possible.  Some times the outfits work out sometimes they don't.  This outfit I think accomplished both comfort and style.  Well at least I think it does...do you?  Funny thing happened, as my boo was taking these shots in the parking lot of the mall.  My cell phone rang, see me digging into my purse.  Guess who called? Monique (Curves & Chaos) and Nik (XOXO NikStar) they called to brag about how much fun they were having together.  So just in case you were wondering the cell phone was not just a prop. I was actually talking to the girls....ha ha ha.

I'm not really a fan of nude, blush or light colors, but I saw this top and liked it.  It's from H&M and thought it was good to add some blush/nude color to my wardrobe. I paired it with my jeggings from Lane Bryant and H&M sandals from the summer.  Oh this the other bag I got from H&M, remember I mentioned it from my last post.  Added my Timex gold watch and floral bangle from H&M, with my new sunnies from Fossil (Thanks Monique, she picked them out for me) This is pretty much a typical weekend outfit for running around town.

Do you have a typical outfit you wear on the weekends or to run errands?

Fall-ing Apart

The weather here in So Cal, has been anything but fall like.  The past 2 weeks have been so hot and summer like I been a total bum in the way I dress.  Since my accident at work and ankle sprain I have been in a total fashion slump.  So between the my bad ankle and the heat, me and fashion have not been friends.

Last night it cooled down enough that I jumped at the chance to wear some of my new fall clothes.  My boo and I went out for a evening of shopping and strolling at our favorite outdoor malls, The Block.  I wore a completely new outfit (almost except the shoes).  I was happy to be able to wear almost any shoes, except my flip flops or flats.  My boots still won't fit over my chubby foot, well its not as swollen any more, but not 100% back to normal.

Excuse my yucky face, I was a bit annoyed and irritated at the mall, lots of dumb people around!  LOL

I wore my new sweater vest with fancy beading from Lane Bryant, print top from H&M, and new skinny jeans from Torrid.  I also got the gray cross body bag from H&M.  I have been wanting a cross body bag, for a while now.  When I saw this one at H&M I loved it and the price was even better ($17.95)  It comes in gray, black, red and a brown (cognac) color.  I got 2, gray and cognac color as well.  Shoes are my good old oxfords from Natuarlizer from the outlet.

What fall items are you looking forward to wearing? Have you started to wear you fall clothes yet? Tell me I really want to know! Thanks for your comments, thoughts and feed back!
