Fresh Face

Recently during my daily web searching and browsing for all things related to plus size fashion, I came across a new fresh face.  A new plus model to the scene, from Puerto Rico named Ana Garcia.  She caught my attention because she is a beautiful curvy Latina and you don't see many plus size Latina models. Also she was a runner up in the Torrid model search in Puerto Rico.  I contacted Ana and she was kind enough to do a interview for the blog. Read the interview and get to know Ana along with me.

Name: Ana C. GarcĂa Rivera
Hometown: Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico
Agency:  Not signed

Why or how did you get into the plus model industry?
One of my future goals in Puerto Rico is to prove that being a Plus Size Model can be a beautiful thing, but in the meantime I have to start at the bottom and make my way up. First of all I have to work on my portfolio then I will knock on doors of people in the industry. Furthermore, I will never give up my dream.

How long have you been a plus model?
I consider myself as an aspiring plus size model and I’ve still got a lot to learn about this industry.  I’m starting to work on my portfolio and the desire I have to learn and to grow is amazing. Everything about this industry puts a smile on my face every time.
What are you goals for plus modeling?
One of my future goals in Puerto Rico is to prove that being a Plus Size Model can be a beautiful thing, but in the meantime I have to start at the bottom and make my way up. First of all I have to work on my portfolio then I will knock on doors of people in the industry. Furthermore, I will never give up my dream.

You were recently a contestant at the Torrid plus model search in Puerto Rico. Can you tell us briefly about your experience?
The experience was so amazing! Everyone in the staff was very nice. The organization, the details and the effort they put on making the girls feel so good about themselves is priceless. All of the girls chosen and not chosen were supportive and nice to each other. I would recommend this contest to any girl in a heartbeat.
Since the Torrid plus model search, have you done any other campaigns or runway shows?

My second runway show is going to be in The Curvy Revolution 2011. Here in Puerto Rico plus size modeling is not that common, but I have faith that it will change. There are so many beautiful, intelligent and talented plus size girls that are trying to get their voice heard and I know in my heart people are going to listen.

Where do you shop for trendy and stylish plus size clothes?
My style is a little laid back and casual. Here in Puerto Rico there are a few plus size stores like Torrid “Love this store”. Recently, a plus size store close to my job opened called Plump Couture, I went there the other day the store and the clothes were gorgeous. But, sometimes I shop at the Mainstream stores that have plus size sections like Old Navy and Forever 21.

What is your favorite thing about being a plus size model?
My favorite thing is being able to give girls and women a positive and real image. We all are different some have bigger hips, bigger breasts while some are taller or petite, but we have to love and appreciate what we have.  Sometimes we want to lose a little bit of weight or tone our bodies because with a healthy lifestyle you can enjoy who you are and you can be who you really are. Just live day by day and be grateful with what you have.

Where can we find you (Facebook, twitter or website)?
My Facebook page is www.facebook.com/anacgarciarivera

If you interested in learning more about Ana go to her facebook page.  She will also be walking the runway next month at The Curvy Revolution in Las Vegas.  I will also be there so I hope to meet Ana and get some shots of her on the runway. Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy the interview.

Yes we are a Big Fat Deal!

This was BFD week here in So Cal...oh yeah! Sarah from Return to Sender was visiting from the east coast. Since she is the original BFD from Viva Fat Vegas (inside joke-you had to be there!) we had to make her visit a special one.  Sarah, Nik and I decide to have a little photo shoot by the ocean in Balboa Island over in the OC (yes like the show...LOL)

Balboa Island is a beautiful beach community, but we obviously stood out. Between all the retired old folks and the OC housewives in their yoga pants and flip flops, our outfits were eye catching. Although we wore all black we still turned a few heads. Nik was blinding drivers with her sequin top, she was like a pretty disco ball! Sarah was definitely bringing out  her inner goth with the faux leather trim on her dress.  Me with my 80ish zipper dress was having a Madonna moment.  All we were missing was Curvy Girl Chic who couldn't join us, she has a real job! LOL

Zipper Dress: Lane Bryant ~ Gray Tights: Avenue ~ Boots: Volatile via Marshalls ~ Sunnies: Burberry

We have a lovely day strolling down the little charming main street and window shopping. Ate some ice cream and enjoyed the gorgeous So Cal weather.  Sarah was bummed it was her last day and she was headed back east to the snow...BOO!  Over all I think we had a successful BFD week and so glad I have made such awesome blogger friends form all over the country.

*BFD is in reference to a inside joke we have with Sarah back when we first met back in Vegas...just in case you were wondering! LOL

Trend: Aztec Tribal Prints

Spring will be here sooner than we think. Time to look at some trends for the season.  The Aztec tribal print caught my attention on a few websites.  The Aztec print is not your usual print for any season, I think that's why I like it.  Not to say this print is seasonal, but I think it would be fun to wear in spring.  Below are some of my favorite pieces so far with the Aztec print.

Camel Aztec Tunic 35 euros ~ Style369
Aztec Print Drape Dress $30.00 ~ Fashion to Figure

Tribal Foil Print Top $60 ~ Simply Be
Aztec Print Tunic $39.50 ~ Lane Bryant
Aztec Print Maxi Dress $15.00 ~ Yours Clothing

Do you like any of these Aztec print pieces?  What do you think of the trend? Will you be rocking any Aztec or other tribal prints this year?

Navy Blue Lagoon

It's still winter time, but her in So Cal it felt like a perfect spring day. The weather was great, sunny, warm and just gorgeous. Decided to wear the maxi dress from Seal With A Kiss, I bought during the Pink Turkey sale after Thanksgiving. I have been waiting for weather to warm up to wear it. This weekend was the perfect time, I also did my 1st ootd video.  I know a lot of other bloggers do ootd videos and decided to try it as well.

Ok well my BF took some really great pictures as well so I'm including a few.

Sushi & Shopping

Wednesday I had the pleasure of having lunch with the lovely and fun Nik from XOXO NikStar and Iza from Good Grief Iza.  We at sushi, shopped and LOL'ed a lot.  Sometimes its good to just have some girl time to talk and be silly. That was the kinda day we had.  Not much to report other than Nik & I decide to do a mini photo shoot for ootd post.  We each took each others pictures and recreated some poses we frequently see on other blogs! : ) Its funny when we did a pose we all knew who's signature pose belonged to what other bloggers.  It was all in good fun, so if you see a pose that looks like yours, don't be mad.  We love all the bloggers we have met in the past year and now consider friends. So enjoy the pics from our sushi lunch date and our little shopping spree at F21!

I called this look my Freddy Kruger outfit! LOL (pictures taken by NikStar)

Outfit:
Striped Sweater Vest from Torrid
Black Top with Stud detail from Sears
Skinny Jeans (my fave) from Asos Curve
Studded Scrunch Boots from Volatile via Marshalls
Sunnies Fossil from Fossil Outlet
Earrings from F21
Timex Watch

We tore through the accessories section of F21, we tried on hats and bought lots of jewelry.  Nik and I decided 2011 is gonna be the year of hats for us. What do you think can we pull off wearing hats? I was feeling so French in the beret. Nik was giving a little Rhianna vibe in the fedora. Iza didn't want to play along with the hats...boo
Just realized I didn't get any pics of the sushi, but I can tell you it was delish!

The Queens Have Arrived

Last year I attended the Viva Fat Vegas Blogger Conference where we had the honor to be a part of the Queens of the Desert Plus Size Model search.  We met Tina Sanchez and Rosie Mercado the 2 women behind the model search. It was a wonderful experience to meet the very beautiful and talented woman behind the model search, but also to see the great turn out of girls.  Below are some pictures of the final photo shoot which includes Shayleen Renae the winner of the model search, Tina Sanchez from Moxie Management and model Rosie Mercado.  The ladies look hot and gorgeous with Las Vegas as the back drop for all the pictures.  It was nice to see the results of the model search and want to thank Tina Sanchez for sharing these photos with CSF.  I love being able to share and show beautiful, confident and stylish curvy ladies on the blog. Look out for more features like this in 2011!

2010 Out Takes!

~2010 was the year of  wearing more colors, scarfs and jeans~

2010 is over, it was a great year with many great moments.  My blog has evolved and grown, so has my style.  Although many of my outfits were not so great or special, I did take lots of pics.  I was more daring in my styling, wore more colors than usual and it was the year I met many other great bloggers. Above you will see a few of the outfits and pictures that never made it to the blog. (Don't laugh, OK if you LOL a little I understand!)  I was either not happy with the outfit, the pictures or just never got around to blog about what was going on at the time.  I had a good giggle going over the pictures, seeing my year flash before my eyes and how things have changed.  I feel very lucky and grateful for all the wonderful opportunities my blog has given me and looking forward to many more wonderful moments in 2011.  I am also blessed to have met many awesome bloggers through out the year, many from other states and even other countries.  The blogging community more specific the plus size (fatshion) bloggers have been wonderful and very kind to me.  Thank you to all the beautiful ladies I have met for being awesome blog buddies. Also thank you to the readers of the blog for being a great audience.

2011 is our time to SHINE and make our dreams come true.
I wish you all the best in whatever you do, whatever dreams you may have and may you reach all your goals.

Have a wonderful, beautiful and successful 2011!
