Holiday Shopping: Outlets at Orange

So Christmas has come and gone, hope everyone had a great holiday! Usually I am good about shopping with plenty of time and have my gifts ready and wrapped days before Christmas. This year work and stress got the best of me and I was that dreaded last minute shopper. Luckily I have a great outlet mall within 10 mins of home...Outlets at Orange to the rescue. I received a complimentary gift card from Simon Malls for my holiday shopping needs. Did you know they have a great guest services where you can purchase all kinds of gift cards too.

Newly opened Asics has some really cute running shoes, if you're into that kinda thing
Found lots of warm cozy sweaters and scarves at H&M

Prada anyone!  Couldn't resist, these shoes were fab!

The weekend before Christmas I headed over to the Outlets at Orange and took care of everyone on my list. Did you see all the goodies I found on my Instagram?  Well if you haven't checked out the Outlets at Orange in Orange, CA you are missing out. Everyone on my list got some pretty nice gifts and I saw lots of smiles on Christmas day.

OK so these wedges are more sensible and totally cute from Banana Republic
Had to add some bling for the holiday, these bracelets were 50% at Banana Republic
What girl does't love a new set of makeup brushes, there were perfect for under $20 from Nordstrom Rack
Don't forget the make up to go with those brushes, perfect for holiday looks.

So now that the holidays are over you can still head over to the Outlets at Orange and get yourself something nice.  I know you been good all year and deserve a treat.  I still have to find an outfit for New Years and will be heading there after work.  Can't go wrong with 120+ stores, you are sure to find what you need at the Outlets at Orange.  I have my usual go to spots, like Nordstrom Rack, H&M, Old Navy and Nike Outlet.  I also love to search for special designer finds at Saks Fifth Ave Off 5th and Neiman Marcus Last Call.  They also have all the other usual stores you need and some tasty places to eat.  Gotta love a mall with a Starbucks, movie theater and kettle popcorn cart! Hate to admit this but you can find me at the Outlets at Orange very regularly!  Oh did I mention they have the one and only Lindt chocolate outlet store in California!

5 Quick and Easy Travel Tips

Traveling is one of life's greatest adventures. I love to travel and dream of getting to know this big wonderful world of ours. Although I must admit to not being the world travel I dreamed of being as a child. I have done my fair share of domestic travel, and planning to do much more in the coming years. There is something magical about traveling, visiting new and unknown destinations that excites me. In the last couple years, my travels have expanded and so has my knowledge of traveling. I am no travel expert or guru by any means, but have learned a few tips and tricks along the way. I have a trip coming up soon with my girlfriends to Boston. This trip will mark the second time I take a girls weekend trip, having gone to NYC 2 yrs ago with the same group. For some reason I did not document or blog about my NYC trip (which was amazing!) except for posting pics on instagram. This time around, I want to make sure and include more of my travel adventures on the blog and of course lots of fun pics on instagram, make sure you follow me @CidStyleFile so see my adventures.

Being a world traveler means knowing how to pack and travel light. Packing light a concept that has taken me awhile to grasp, not yet mastering but improving with each trip. I found packing light essential on my trip to NYC, which I did not do! It was my first time in New York City and I wanted to be chic and stylish. Of course I over packed and took way too many clothes and shoes, as expected only half of my clothing was used, the other half never saw the light of day in NYC. It was my introduction NYC and the "fashionista" in me wanted to impress and look stylish. The entire extra "just in case" items I packed were a waste of space. Being the first time in NYC for all of us, we wanted to see and do it all in the short time we had. There was no time to be cute with multiple outfit changes for different attractions and occasions. It was cold in NYC and this California girl was not use to the weather, plus I was a tourist so really no one cared! The lesson learned is when traveling, no one really cares who you are or what you wear so no need for all those extra “what if” items in your luggage.

This time around for Boston I plan to be more prepared and travel light making the most of my wardrobe. For the sake of time we are planning to only take carry-on luggage, which means limited space.

Creating Frida Kahlo Costume From Your Own Closet

Halloween has come and gone, another year and another costume to add to my collection.  I truly do enjoy Halloween, dressing up and coming up with new costume ideas every year.  I've had some costumes better than others, some maybe a little lame and others were winners.  This years costume is some where in the middle.  I didn't have a party to attend, but still enjoy dressing up for work and being creative with my costume.  For the past 8-10 yrs I haven't really worn store bought costumes, since most are quite expensive and cheap looking in my opinion. For one night it doesn't seem sensible to spend tons of money when I have a closet full of clothes.  I rather create my own costume using what ever items can be found in my closet.   This Halloween I was inspired by one of my favorite female painter/artist from the 20th century...Frida Kahlo

I just want to share a quick post of my costume and how I created this look with clothing already in my closet.  The total cost to put together this costume was only $7.00, since I only purchased the flower head band and chunky necklace from H & M.

frida, kahlo, halloween, dia de los muertos, costume,

The teal dress worn is from SWAK's Fureza by Rosie Mercado collection, and the black embroidered top is from Old Navy, which actually a swimsuit cover-up. The "rebozo" shawl is an over sized floral scarf, and wore some yellow and tan sandals also from my closet.  Finished off the look with another scarf braided into my hair to create Frida's signature hairstyle.  Added a flower crown, big necklace, earrings and finished off with Frida's other signature look...Unibrow!

Frida, Kahlo, Halloween,

This was a quick and easy costume for me to create this year.  What do you think, did I do Frida justice?  Did you dress up this Halloween? What was your costume?

Latina Magazine's Hollywood Hot List Party

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. I contemplated just posting this picture below on the blog and that is all!  Hello William Levy!  He is definitely one of the hottest Latinos is Hollywood. Some of you may be wondering who the heck is William Levy, but trust me you want to know who he is!  He's somewhat of a new comer in Hollywood, but has been on the scene in Latin America for many years. William is very well known in Mexico and South America, as one of the hottest soap opera actors.  Some of you may recognize him from his appearance on Dancing With The Stars in 2012.  So when we heard he was in the same location as us, we kinda freaked out! Us, being me and on my good friend Irma.  I knew there would be some Latino celebs at the Latina Magazine Hollywood Hot List party, but had no idea one of them would be William Levy.

Hello William Levy, nice to meet you!  We were both in awe, can you blame us!  He's HOT!!

This is the 4th year I was invited and attended the Latina Magazine Hollywood Hot List Party at the Sunset Tower Hotel. For past several years Latina Magazine host a party to recognize and celebrate the hottest Latinos in Hollywood. Every year the party gets bigger and the celebs get better and hotter!  It's great to see Latinos being recognized in Hollywood, as some of them are obviously talented and well respected in the industry.

One of them being Michael Pena, who is well known for many roles. Most recently he played Cesar Chavez in the movie and is currently starring on the FOX show Gracepoint.  It's such a good show and it's great to see him on TV, as you can tell by the picture he takes his job seriously.  He was nice and accommodating taking pictures with fans, but not once did I see him crack a smile.

christina milian, latina magazine, hollywood, singer, actress, latina blogger, sunset tower,

Another celeb sighting at the Latina party was Christina Milian. She was looking very hot in a red long dress and I was loving her braided hair. She's was also very nice and sweet taking pics with everyone who asked.  Christina and her sister attended the party together and both seemed to be enjoying themselves. Where else could I have gotten the chance to share a dance floor with Christina Milian!

This gorgeous girl is Denise Bidot, plus model and reality TV star of Curvy Girls. I actually met Denise about 5 years ago at a luncheon for Latina Bloggers as she was just starting out her modeling career as the face of Forever 21 and Torrid plus fashion.  Now she is every where, on the Lane Bryant website, modeling for Nordstroms and many other plus size brands in Europe, as well as walking in New York Fashion Week.   I am very proud of her and love that she has stayed true to her self and remains a genuine and sweet person, just like the day I met her.

OITNB,netflix, latina magazine, latina actress, latina bloggers, sunset tower, she is dash, orange is the new black,

Couldn't pass up the opp to take a pic with Dascha Polanco from one of my fave shows, Orange Is The New Black on Netflix. Dash was glowing in her gold sequin dress looking like a goddess, and was so gracious posing for pictures with all the fans. She was also a hot celeb for the paparazzi as well, soon after taking this picture with her, the flashes started to go off.  I moved out of the way quickly for the photogs, but maybe I wasn't quick enough.  The following day on the Daily Mail UK website there I was, photo bombing Dascha Polanco!! So I finally made it on to a well know website and this is the face I make!  I Die! LOL

OITNB, latina actress, dascha polanco, daily mail uk, photo bomb

The party had a great mix of Latino celebs and I was so grateful to be there experiencing it all.  Especially being able to share it with my really good friend, who was so thrilled to meet Williams Levy.  So thankful to Latina Magazine for inviting me and celebrating all of these beautiful Latinos in Hollywood! Just sad I didn't get more and better quality pics, since I forgot to bring my digital camera and my iPhone was acting up the whole night!  UGH lesson learned, make sure you have a good camera when attending parties in Hollywood!

Beauty File: Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Collection

Playing with makeup can either make me feel excited or anxious...depending of the degree of difficulty.  I love makeup as much as any woman but do tend to sway toward the more natural looking makeup. When ever I am given the opportunity to preview and sample new makeup I'm like a kid in a candy store...I want to try it out right away and all at once.  So I was especially excited to sample the new Urban Decay Pulp Fiction collection.  Pulp Fiction is a cult classic movie with so many great characters and lines we all probably know. One of the most memorable characters is Mrs. Mia Wallace played by Uma Thurman.

The Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Collections is based on Mrs. Mia Wallace and her unique, yet classic look. The black bob hair style to the crisp white shirt and the iconic red lipstick is a signature look of Mia Wallace.   With the 20th year anniversary of the movie this year Urban Decay co-founder and Chief Creative Office Wende Zomnir wanted to commemorate this occasion the best she knows how...with makeup!  The collection started off with a simple lipstick and nail polish, quickly morphed into a full collection of makeup.

* Revolution Lipstick in Mrs. Mia Wallace - $22

* Nail Color in Mrs. Mia Wallace - $15

My attempt at following the directions on the "get the look" card from the eye palette
I only previewed the eye palette and lipstick from this collection, since those are the make up items I tend to use more frequently. Having used the Naked eye palette from Urban Decay almost on a daily basis, I really wanted to try out the Pulp Fiction Palette. The colors are classic shades that will compliment almost any one and comes with a easy to follow step by step card on how to recreate Mia Wallace's dark edgy look from the movie. I really enjoy the how-to step by step instructions as my makeup skills aren't as great I would like. My makeup skills are very basic so any help I can get is welcomed. The eye palette includes 5 different shades with names from frequently used words in the movie Pulp Fiction such as Righteous (light cream matte), Tyranny (warm brown matte), Vengeance (deep taupe-brown matte-satin), Furious (white satin) and Anger (black satin w/slight tonal sparkle). All comes in a cool compact with mirror and small double edged brush.

pulp fiction, make up, eye palette, red lips, mia wallace, revolution lipstick, urban decay,
Final outcome of eyes and lips using the Pulp Fiction Collection - I'm not the best at makeup application so don't judge! LOL

The Revolution Lipstick is a blood red shade to give you that bad-ass pout just like Mia Wallace in the Pulp Fiction.  In fact the red shade its self is called Mrs. Mia Wallace and its a great classic red lipstick.  The lipstick is smooth and velvety and is long lasting, which doesn't dry out your lips.  I have recently discovered the Revolution lipstick by UD and love their formula, which makes your lips plump and leaves them looking cushiony soft while also moisturizing.

Overall I liked this collection, my favorite is the lipstick, which looks best when you line your lips with a lip pencil.  The eye palette is nice too but the colors a little too muted and powdery, the small brush is not the greatest for application due to its size.  If you are fan of the movie and Urban Decay then you should definitely go out and get the collection.  I checked the website today and the eye palette is now on sale for only $16!

*Disclaimer:  I was provided with preview samples from Urban Decay for this review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own, for best results you should always try out products for yourself.

Purple Purse Campaign Raising Awareness for Domestic Violence

This post is a sponsored in collaboration with Allstate Foundation® and Latina Bloggers Connect

Today lets talk about something most women or people for that matter don't like to talk about...domestic violence and financial abuse.  Last year I was part of the Purple Purse campaign to raise awareness and help break the cycle of abuse.  This year I am proud to take part once again. Talking about domestic violence and abuse has become taboo and in many cultures its just swept under the rug.  The All State Foundation #PurplePurse campaign wants to make it fashionable and easier to talk about domestic violence and the financial abuse that traps women.  This program helps raise funds for more than 140 national, state and local domestic violence organizations.

purple purse, kerri washington, allstate foundation, domestic violence, financial abuse,

Being a victim of domestic violence is NOT something to be ashamed of, no one deserves to be abused physically, emotionally or mentally.  Domestic violence can take shape in more ways than just physical abuse.  Financial abuse happens in 98% of all cases of domestic violence and is one of the most powerful ways to keep a victim trapped.  Can you imagine some one with holding money or not allowing you to work and make your own money.  WOW!  Being able to make your own money and support your self is more powerful than we think. Thankfully I have never been a victim of any type of domestic abuse, but I am sure we all know someone who has.  Domestic violence affects 1 in 4 women in her lifetime; that’s more than ovarian, breast and lung cancer combined.  With those staggering numbers we should all talking about and doing our part to help those in need.  Actress Kerri Washington is lending her voice as an ambassador to raise awareness. She has designed a limited-edition purple purse, which will be distributed to select Allstate employees, select Agency owners and each of the Purple Purse Challenge participants, as well as media, opinion leaders and influencers to help raise awareness.

purple purse, purple tassel, allstate foundation, domestic violence, financial abuse, survivor stories, bolso morado

In addition, The Allstate Foundation is producing 80,000 purple purse tassels to attach to your favorite purse as a continual sign of support. Each tassel is attached to a removable card featuring one of five inspiring survivor stories, being sent to Purple Purse challenge participants and agents. I received one of those tassels with a story from a survivor of domestic violence.
Pilar, immigrant and mother, suffered for years in abusive marriage. Her husband restricted her access to money and kept her completely isolated. She was trained as a nurse in Mexico, but her husband did not allow her to get licensed in the U.S., so she could not work.
When she broke free and enrolled in a financial literacy course, Pilar learned how to recover from financial abuse. She used that knowledge and new found confidence to file for divorce and pursue a nursing degree in the U.S.

These stories are all too familiar, and we all probably know someone going through this type of situation and may not even be aware of it.  Don't stand by and do nothing, we can all help and make a difference in some small way.

If you or someone you know needs immediate help, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or TTY 1-800-787-3224.

#UntamedStyle Challenge: Fall Trends

Time for another #UntamedStyle Challenge, this time around its Fall trends. Yup, summer is practically over and time to get into Fall state of mind.

Well this outfit challenge was a bit challenging for me, since in California we really don't get Fall weather till about October. Its still 90 degrees and I am not even thinking about Fall!! Our Fall's are mild and not as cool as other parts of the country so my fall look is probably not what most would expect.  Fall to me also means going back to school, although its been many years since I was in school.  I loved doing back to school shopping when I was younger, even in college.  Some thing about starting a new school year with new clothes and often times a new style was so exciting to me.  Even now, working in education I still do my back to school shopping and get a couple new outfits.  Fall fashion seems more exciting to me, you can wear boots, coats, sweaters and accessorize with hats, scarves and gloves.  Layering your clothes and adding more elements than you would in spring and summer.  I also feel Fall fashion looks more chic than in any other season.  So what are the trends for Fall 2014; on the runway we saw lots of chunky knits, sixties mod, plaid, velvet, fur and tailoring.  All these trends are not necessary new to fashion, but each year designers find new and creative ways to interpret these styles. That is what #UntamedStyle challenge is all about, taking these trends and making then our own and interpreting them with our own style. My Fall Trend choice is actually a combination of trends, plaid and bit of sixties mod influence and some 90's grunge thrown in for fun.  Well I am not one to jump on the band wagon of any trend.  If I like a trend I'll wear it, and incorporate it into my wardrobe some how.  I am not about wearing anything just because its all the rage in fashion, hello did you see me wear a crop top ever!  Nope and you never will!

plus size blogger, plus size fashion, plaid shirt, untamed style, ootd,

So here is my Fall Trend look, its nothing too exciting and probably something you have seen before.  I have always loved plaid and am totally embracing all the plaid styles currently available.  Plaid is such a classic print and will be around forever, I am sure one day my kids will be wearing it too.  A plaid shirt is very versatile, every one should have a good plaid shirt in their closet.  I currently have 2 plaid shirts and probably adding more. OK maybe just one more, promise not to go over board with this trend.

Added an A-Line dress, which has a 60's silhouette and my black mod inspired boots.  Actually now that I look a this outfit, feels like a school girl outfit.  Which I love this look as well, guess my style is young at heart! Some black tights and few fun accessories finish off my outfit.  Maybe this look isn't exactly what is on trend for Fall, but its definitely what I will be wearing this fall.  I especially love my fancy silver sheer socks.  So this fall find a trend that you like and make it work for you and your style.  If not, just keep rocking your own style and say F-U to the trends!  After all "Our hearts will not be tamed and our style shall not be shamed" is the motto the ladies of #untamedstyle live by.  We are making our own fashion rules, and not apologizing for it!

My First Facial at Hylunia Wellness Spa in Costa Mesa

Do ever wish you could be transported to another place just for one day and escape your busy and/or hectic life!  I sure do and that's exactly how my visit to Hylunia Wellness Spa felt, a getaway to an exotic location.  I was invited to experience a spa treatment at the newly opened Hylunia Wellness Spa in Costa Mesa, CA by Mary from The Recessionista.  I have to admit this was my first real spa treatment ever.  I've had mini treatments done or visited spas for events, but never had the full spa treatment done.

Let start off by saying the location of this spa feels like you are in a resort, with the building surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful fountain.  Also being very close to Newport Beach you can feel and smell the ocean breeze.  The setting is relaxing as soon as you arrive to the spa.  When you walk into the spa you get the feeling of a exotic tropical location.  The theme and decor is inspired by Bali, which much of the furniture  is imported straight from Bali.  The main hall way is dark, but lit up by a starry and twinkling light display on the ceiling.

A few pics from inside the Hylunia Wellness Spa, I was too relaxed and excited and didn't get better pics.

The spa has a very nice locker room, with lockers and keys to put away your purse and other personal belongings.  Inside the locker you will find a white fluffy robe with slippers for each guest. Only negative thing about the robes is, it didn't fit me. I did let the management know it would be nice to have different size robes for larger bodies.  They agreed it was needed and informed me its something they are working on improving.  So lets get to the good stuff the actual spa treatment.

We had the choice of a massage or facial, I opted for the facial. My skin was in need of some TLC.  It was my first real facial, so I was excited but also a bit nervous.  I wasn't sure exactly what to expect from this experience. It started off with a 15 minute relaxation and meditation with visuals.  You lay in a room with a giant screen displaying images to help you relax, then you're given a pair of glasses with ear buds to see and listen to a guided meditation.  Once you're done with the meditation a spa therapist will come get you and take you to the treatment room.   The facial I received started off with a foot cleansing and slight rub down.  The spa therapist also used some elements of Ayurveda during the facial. The facial consisted of cleansing, exfoliation and a mask.  All the products used are natural or derived from organic and natural sources, non-inflammatory and anti-oxidant ingredients and pure USP ingredients.  I also received a massage during the facial of every limb, arms, hands, feet and shoulder/neck.  It was heavenly and so relaxing...almost didn't want it to end.  My first spa and facial experience was excellent and Hylunia Wellness Spa is great place to experience a spa treatment.  They also carry their own line of skin care treatments you can purchase, along with offering other services such as yoga, cooking classes and happiness coaching!  Go to the website for more details on Hylunia Wellness Spa and book your own spa treatment.

Hylunia Wellness Spa also offers a membership for only $50 (one time fee) with lots of great benefits.

Shine Bright Like A Sunflower

Sunflowers have always been my favorite flower.  Although not the prettiest of flowers, there is something magical about them. I can't help but smile when I see them, their big bright yellow petals and dark seeded centers are so beautiful to me.  Maybe its the earth sign in me, I have always been attracted to nature, and feel a sense of peace when I am outdoors.   Sunflowers make me happy and just the sight of them will lift my mood. This top from Asos Curve had my name all over it!  I received the Sunflower Polka Dot top courtesy of Asos.  Initially I loved the print, but had second thoughts once I ordered it online. Once my package came in, I was in love with the sunflowers once again.  Sunflowers and polka dots...some of my favorite prints all in one.  Yay!

So at first I did have "old lady" blouse in mind when trying on the top.  But that thought soon went out the window, the more I admired my sunflower top.  Wearing it made me happy and smile, so that's all it took for me to love this top.  I had blogged about wearing what you love before, and the older I get the more this rings true.  I really don't care any more what others may think of say about how I dress.  My happiness and well being is all that if wearing an "old lady" blouse with sunflowers and polka dots makes me happy....I am gonna rock the heck out of this blouse!

Actually I received many compliments on this blouse while out and about shopping doing my errands. Guess I'm not the only one who loves sunflowers and polka dots combined.  I kept it simple with my fave boyfriend jeans and platform sandals. Played around with a top bun and off I went. This outfit gave me a 90's vibe, I don't know if its more grungy or hippy-ish. Sometimes the simplest of outfits turn out the best and make me feel the most confident.

City Chic Australian Retailer Comes to the US!

Seems just like yesterday I was a plus size teenager who loved fashion, but had no where to shop.  It was very sad trying to shop for any type of clothes, we had no shops for young trendy, modern and stylish girls. There we maybe 2 stores that catered to plus size, but it wasn't the type of fashion I wanted and yearned for.  I use to either shop in the men's department or have my mom make me some clothes.  Thinking back my options for clothing were quite pitiful and sad. And to think I was much smaller in size than I am now and it was still difficult to find clothing I loved. Well now about 20 yrs later, the shopping options for plus size fashion have tremendously improved.  Some may argue there is still much more improvement needed in plus size fashion, but compared to what I had in my teens it's pretty darn good.

city chic, westfiled, culver city mall, plus size fashion, Australian plus size store

Last week I witnessed one of those fabulous plus size fashion moments. The Australian fashion retailer City Chic opened its first ever US store. I had known about City Chic for a few years and was thrilled when they launched a US online store. Now we call all shop in their fab stores. OK well not everyone just yet, but City Chic is opening 6 new stores in Southern California. Last year City Chic became available in select Nordstrom stores and online. Slowing they will expand to more retail stores and made available in more Nordstrom as well. Another options for fashion in sizes 14+!! YAY!! There is no better feeling than shopping in a boutique, being able to touch all the pretty clothes and trying them on. As much as I enjoy online shopping, nothing beats the feeling of shopping in store.

The new City Chic store are essentially boutiques, carrying contemporary fashion and intimates in sizes 12-24. From the second you walk into City Chic you know this is not an ordinary plus size store. The decor is very well chic and modern, with beautifully displayed clothing and even a section just dedicated to jeans. The dressing rooms feel like your in some awesome huge closet, just playing dress up trying on clothes. The whole feel and vibe of the store is unlike any I've experienced in any type of store. I am really excited for this new store and the experience it will offer for woman who love fashion who happen to be plus size. That is where City Chic sets its self apart, they are a fashion boutique who sells clothing sizes 14+ not a plus size store. It's all about fashion and style not about the size.

Next store to open is at my local mall in Brea, CA.  Go to the City Chic website for details of all the store openings.

Style Report: California Love

In case you haven't figured it out by now from reading my blog...I am a California Girl!   Very proudly born and raised in the golden state! Lived all my life in Southern California.  Recently I have noticed a trend of apparel proclaiming love for California.   Seems reasonable to love your state and where your from, there is so much to love about Californian.  We really do have it all in California from the beaches, mountains and deserts.  There isn't anything you can't do or see in my state.  OK I am being a wee bit biased, but who can blame me...when the average weather is about 75 degrees most of the year.  Plus our flag has the best and cutest mascot, a brown bear!   I do love bears, so again being a little biased. Can't help my self gush when I talk about my beautiful California.  So why not show my pride and love with some fun fashions. It all started with this shirt I wore a few months ago. Also this hat I've been obsessing over since I saw it.  So be it a tee, a hat or some jewelry, there are plenty of ways to show some love for the golden state.

Here are some items I found to proudly display that California Love!  Yes they do come in plus sizes too, just in case you were wondering. :)

I will forever and always be a California Girl!!
