Hello Adele, Welcome Back...How I Miss You!

Adele's new single is finally here, she is definitely a voice for a generation of women. I love her deep soulful voice and the power she has with it. Here is her latest song and video "Hello". I also shared what she has to say about this new album and what it means to her. Adele is definitely wise beyond her young 25 years. This resonates with me at 40, I am ready to say "Hello" to who I really am and the woman I want to be. So happy for Adele for coming to this discovering at 25, some of us took a little longer, but glad we are both there!

What do you think about this new song and video?

Hello

When I was 7, I wanted to be 8. When I was 8, I wanted to be 12. When I turned 12 I just wanted to be 18. Then after that I stopped wanting to be older. Now I’m ticking 16-24 boxes just to see if I can blag it! I feel like I’ve spent my whole life so far wishing it away. Always wishing I was older, wishing I was somewhere else, wishing I could remember and wishing I could forget too. Wishing I hadn’t ruined so many good things because I was scared or bored. Wishing I wasn’t so matter of fact all the time. Wishing I’d gotten to know my great grandmother more, and wishing I didn’t know myself so well, because it means I always know what’s going to happen in the end. Wishing I hadn’t cut my hair off, wishing I was 5’7”. Wishing I’d waited and wishing I’d hurried up as well.
My last record was a break-up record and if I had to label this one I would call it a make-up record. I’m making up with myself. Making up for lost time. Making up for everything I ever did and never did. But I haven’t got time to hold on to the crumbs of my past like I used to. What’s done is done. Turning 25 was a turning point for me, slap bang in the middle of my twenties. Teetering on the edge of being an old adolescent and a fully-fledged adult, I made the decision to go into becoming who I’m going to be forever without a removal van full of my old junk. I miss everything about my past, the good and the bad, but only because it won’t come back. When I was in it I wanted out! So typical. I’m on about being a teenager: sitting around and chatting shit, not caring about the future because it didn’t matter then like it does now. The ability to be flippant about everything and there be no consequences. Even following and breaking rules… is better than making the rules.
25 is about getting to know who I’ve become without realising. And I’m sorry it took so long, but you know, life happened.
Love,
Adele

Plus Fashion Show at Macy's with Plus Model Emme

This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

It's not to often I get to attend a fashion show, and it's even more rare to attend a plus size fashion show. Well thanks to Macy's and Plus Model Emme, I get to do both! Macy's is having a fun free fashion event hosted by Plus Model Emme. If you are not familiar with Emme, she is the worlds first plus size super model. I truly believe Emme, opened the eyes of the fashion world to plus size fashion and women with curves. She has been a major influence on the plus size fashion community around the world. Emme is not only the worlds first plus size super model, but also built a community around positive body image and embracing your curves. We can all use a good role model when it comes to embracing and loving ourselves no matter what size we may be. Don't you agree?

Plus Size Universe: Patchwork Jeans

It's been a minute since I've done a Plus Size Universe feature, but I'm back with one of my favorites...jeans!  In case you haven't noticed from my outfit post on Instagram, jeans are my favorites.  I could live in denim and wear jeans everyday. Sadly I can't really wear jeans to work, so I take full advantage on the weekends.  I love jeans in all styles, washes and finishes.  One trend that isn't really new is patchwork jeans, but I have noticed it's showing up more in plus sizes.  Although plus fashion has evolved and grown in the past few years, it's still taking a long time for trends to trickle down from the runways. It seems plus size woman have to wait for a year of more for certain trends to come in our size.  I had seen patchwork jeans on a few celebs and on other straight size bloggers a year or more ago. I love this look and needed a pair of my own. Unfortunately these style jeans were not easily found in plus size a year ago. I even considered making my own, using an old pair of jeans. I am not much of DIY type so just forgot about it.

Recently I notice more plus size brands and retailers started selling these patchwork jeans.  I recently bought pair and wanted to share the trend, which I still think is stylish. Below are some of my fave looks from some celebrities wearing this trend.  Gwen Stefani is always a favorite of mine and is often seen wearing jeans.  Taraji P. Henson was seen at the airport wearing a pair of patchwork jeans looking very casual and stylish.

plus size jeans, patchwork denim, gwen stefani, taraji p henson, harper and liv, old navy jeans,

Gwen and Taraji are wearing some high end denim retailing for $200 plus.   Although their jeans look very stylish and cool, no way would I pay those prices for jeans.  Especially a very trendy style such as patchwork which I like, but its not a classic style that can be worn for many years.  I like to find much more affordable versions of trendy denim styles like the ones featured.  The pair I bought  the Boyfriend Patchwork Jeans from Old Navy seen above, it retails for about $45 and is currently on sale.  I actually bought a pair from the straight size and not the plus size, which is only sold on line.  I usually get my Old Navy clothes in the "regular" size since some things run a bit bigger. These patchwork jeans are very roomy and have stretch, I didn't have to order the plus size online, so try the sizes in store and see if they work for you too. Another pair I loved is the Cropped Patchwork Jeans from Harper & Liv, they are from Macy's and retail for $59, currently also on sale from $10 off.  I found a few other pairs from other plus size store like Rainbow and Fashion to Figure. This trend is becoming more accessible and affordable in plus size.

What do you think about patchwork jeans?
Would you wear them?

Don't Call It A Comeback

Whoa could it be another outfit post in the same month? Yup! I've slacked off way to long on posting outfits, time to make my comeback. Although I never really left, been here since 2009 and don't plan on quitting the blog any time soon. I wasn't really in a fashionable mood for quite some time.  Most of the summer was spent kinda bumming it and no one wants to see my "bum" outfits.  Trust me it's not cute! Now that I've seem to have gotten my fashion mojo back, hope to share more outfit post.  Seems to be what people like to see, on my instagram ootd pictures get the most likes. By the way hope you're following me on instagram, that's where I am most active. Find me under CidStyleFile on IG and Snapchat too!

OK so back to the outfit, its nothing spectacular, but gosh darn it I felt cute.  Isn't that what matters most, how we feel in our clothes.  Sometimes I think my outfits are not special or worthy to post on the blog. Then I slap my self and say hey this is me and my style and that's the whole point of the blog. It's about sharing my style and what I love to wear, some may like it and others may not. Hope to post more outfits and share my style, even if it's simple and casual.  This is me and what I love to wear, sometimes it may be fab and other times not.

I had not been to Torrid in a long time, decided to drop in the other day.  It was my lucky day because they were having an extra 50% off clearance sale.  Woohoo! My 2 favorite things clearance and 50% off, my timing was just right!  I go through periods of time where I shop a lot at certain store.  Torrid use to be a fave, but for a while I honestly wasn't loving what they had to offer.  Lately from what I have seen the styles seem to be improving, or at least appeal more to my style. The clearance racks were over flowing with lots of goodies, it was so difficult to decide what I wanted.  I tried on several things, like a dozen actually, there so many cute clothes.  Well one thing about Torrid clearance, it's final sale and you can't exchange or return. I always make sure to try on clothes when its on clearance, thank goodness I did.  Out of all the items only 2 really fit well and I loved. I bought this top, with the cool cut-out and Tarot graphic, along with a studded belt (wearing it but you can't see it). Spent less than $20 for both, now that's a bargain for Torrid!

I've been trying to be more conscious of only buying clothes that fit me well and really love.  I'm awful about buying stuff cause it cheap, then I don't end up wearing or hating the fit. It's almost embarrassing sometimes going through my closet and finding clothes with tags and never worn. I mostly end up giving stuff away to my aunt, who loves my clothes.  She makes out like a bandit on her visits from Mexico. Sometimes she doesn't even bring lots of clothes in her luggage, because she knows I'll have new things to give. No wonder I am one of her fave nieces, ha ha.  Well at least I'd like to think so.

Last Days of Summer

Summer is almost over, but here in California we are still enjoying some hot days and breezy evenings. I am keeping busy with work and spending my time off with my boo and exploring our city. It's funny how you can live in a city for years and not really know it well. This weekend we enjoyed a movie, dinner, drinks and explored the new Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center or Artic as we like to call it. Basically a transportation hub were you can catch the train, metrolink or take a bus to almost any where in Southern California. Such a cool spot right across from Angel Stadium and Honda Center.  I really love the architecture of it and the modern futuristic look. Thought it would a good spot for some outfit pictures.

I received a Kimono courtesy of Harper & Liv, a new plus size line which I had previously mentioned here on the blog. The collection launched in May and is sold at Dillards, Lord & Taylor and now available at Macy's. I really love the style and quality of the items so far.  I wore another one of their pieces here, and received lots of compliments and questions about it.   Harper & Liv is a contemporary line, with many on trend pieces, but doesn't feel too junior or young, but definitely not too mature either.  The Kimono has a southwestern print and fringe trim making it a fun and versatile piece in your wardrobe. I love anything with fringe, but you need to be careful the fringe kept getting caught on everything!  Otherwise I love the Kimono and can see myself wearing it all year long, with a dress, jeans and skirts.

I kept my outfit a bit basic and made the kimono the focus paring it with jeans, a tank and sandals.  My accessories were minimal as well and just let the print on the Kimono be the star. Harper & Liv is becoming one of my fave brands, and happy they are now selling at Macy's.  Check them out and tell me what you think.

Here's how I wore the Fringed Southwest Print Kimono.

Plus Size Universe: Safari Print Maxi

Summer is full blast and there's nothing better for hot days than a breezy maxi dress.  When I saw this cute little maxi on Vanessa Hudgens, immediately thought there needs to be a Plus Size Universe version.  Yup there is, sometimes I find version that are really similar and other times just items that kinda resemble.   Either way I am happy that plus fashion is evolving and more options are available.

Here is my version of the safari print maxi dress Vanessa Hudgens was seen wearing in NYC.  I love this look, totally cute and effortless just the way I like to dress for summer!

plus size fashion, plus size universe, cid style file, vanessa hudgens, celeb style, steal her style, maxi dress, summer style

Vanessa’s total look is about $1000, which is like paying rent for some people.  I can’t imagine spending the same amount of money on an outfit as paying my rent.  Well good news, with my Plus Size Universe version you won’t have to spend even half the price.  I pride myself on being a bargain shopper, being able to find quality items for much less and never paying retail!   Here is my PSU version that only cost about $100 total!   Found a somewhat similar safari print maxi dress from Target’s new plus size line Ava and Viv, for only $35. I paired the maxi dress with some MIA block heel sandals from 6pm for only $26 and added Fringe Bucket Bag from Forever 21 for only $27. Finished off the look with a stylish pair of Round Sunglasses from Asos, which are on sale now for only $13.  Viola! There you have it a easy, chic and stylish summer outfit.

Blowout At The House Salon

Last month I blogged about loving and embracing my curls, but sometimes a girl just wants to have fun with straight hair. I was invited to a new salon in Orange County called The House Salon for a complimentary blowout by stylist Morgan. Morgan introduced me to the new salon and gave me a sample of what they have to offer at The House Salon.

Inside The House Salon, love the decor and open floor.

The House Salon is located in Mission Viejo, CA and just opened a couple weeks ago.  It's a very modern and spacious salon, offering many services from cuts, color, blowouts and much more.  I loved the salons decor and its open space layout. They have a great waiting area with a TV, fireplace and chandeliers. You feel like you are in a fancy home and not a hair salon.

Morgan drying my hair right after shampooing, whoa my hair is so long!

Morgan gave me a shampoo with a little scalp and neck massage.  She's very gentle and made me feel very comfortable while she shampooed my hair. My hair is quite long, she had her work cut out. Morgan used Kérastase, L'Oréal Professionnel products, which I love and use at home too!

Process of blow drying my hair, its so curly and long.  Also love the hooks for your bag below mirror.

Morgan began with blow drying my hair, with a round brush and blow dryer. Yikes I don't do my own hair at home because of the length and amount of hair I have.  Its no easy task to tackle these curls of mine. After the blow dry, she used the flat iron to straighten my hair, being very precise with my hair line and gentle. The entire process took just a bit over an hour, all the while Morgan was very nice and professional.  We chatted while she worked and made me feel welcomed and comfortable the entire time.

The end result, nice shiny and soft straight hair, Morgan worked her magic and my curls!

The result was a fabulous blowout, my hair looked great! What a difference a blowout makes with my hair. It amazes that just a blow dryer and flatiron will make my super curly hair straight for a day or two.   It's fun to change it up temporarily and get a new look.

Morgan and I, shes a doll, go see her for all  your hair needs!

Thanks to Morgan at The House Salon for great service and fab hair.  If you are in the OC area and in need of a hair stylist go see Morgan.  She's very nice and makes you feel welcomed and is very attentive with her clients.

You can see more samples of her work on her Instagram and Facebook page.  Also find a full list of services and prices on her StyleSeat page, where you can book an appointment as well. Go see Morgan and tell her Veronica from Cid Style File sent you!

Plus Size Univese: Stripe T-Shirt Dress

Celebrity style blogs are really popular, showing you what they wear and where to get their look.  I wouldn't say I'm a celebrity obsessed person, just like fashion and can appreciate style regardless who wears it. There are also plenty of blogs where you can get the same celeb look for less.  These site are all great, but none of them tell you how or where to get the similar looks if you are plus size, like me. Sometimes I see a celebrity or even other bloggers who are not plus size wear a look I really like.  Sucks knowing the designer or retailer they are buying it from does not make it in plus size.  Well I don't worry too much about that any more, I know any look can be recreated in plus size for you and me!

I saw this look on Gigi Hadid, the new it girl of the moment wearing a super cute stripe t-shirt dress.  She was spotted earlier this month at the Montreal Gran Prix looking very casual, comfy and cute.  This look is not only something I would totally wear, but was able to recreate easily in plus size and for much less.  Here is my Plus Size Universe version of Gigi's look.

gigi hadid, stripe, tshirt dress, plus size fashion, plus size universe, moto vest, espadrilles, cid style file, michael kors, charlotte russe, macys,

Gigi Hadid is wearing a Michael Kors stripe t-shirt dress, IRO leather moto jacket with Adidas Original sneakers and some cool sunglasses.  Her total look is about $2400 and I can guarantee you none of these items (dress/jacket) come in plus size.  My Plus Size Universe look is just as cute, cost way less and won't break the bank.  I found this stripe ponte t-shirt dress from Charlotte Russe, did you know they now sell plus size. You can find this dress online for only $31.99.  I paired my PSU look with a white moto vest, instead of a jacket from Style&Co at Macy's for only $37.99.   I found some white espadrilles instead of sneakers, for summer they make more sense and look more stylish in my opinion.  These white mesh espadrilles are from Circus by Sam Edelman for $45 and will be great to wear all summer long.  Finish off the look with some aviator style sunnies from H&M for only $7.95 and my entire Plus Size Universe look is only $124!  This look is great for summer parties or any other fun summer activities.  It has a slight nautical look, with a bit of chic edge.

What do you think about my Plus Size Universe look?

Wood Watches by Jord - Unique & Stylish Timepieces

Wearing a watch for me is like wearing underwear, can't leave home without making sure I have one on. I've always worn a watch and have a nice little collection of timepieces.   A watch is an important part of any wardrobe just as much as the shoes or accessories. It can completely change the look of your outfit.   Jord Wood Watches gifted me a new watch made of cherry wood. Jord watches is a new brand to me and I had to see what these wood watches were all about when they contacted me. I didn't have any watch similar to this and was very excited to add a wood watch to my collection.

#jordwatch, wood watches, Jord, timepiece, sustainable wood, cid style file, ootd, unique, stylish, classic, cherry wood,

Jord wood watches are made of 100% sustainable wood and come in an array of wood finishes featuring woods like bamboo, maple, sandalwood, blackwood, cherry, zebrawood, and koa.  I chose the cherry wood Sully watch, which is a larger style watch and has an easy to read dial.   The watch is very well made and crafted with nice details.

#jordwatch, wood watches, Jord, timepiece, sustainable wood, cid style file, ootd, unique, stylish, classic, cherry wood,

The Sully watch is a great addition to my wardrobe, especially for the summer months.  I tend to dress much more casual and wear lots of neutral colors and this cherry wood watch goes well with my outfits.  I also like the natural materiel for warmer months since it will stay cool when the weather gets hot.  Have you gotten burned by a metal watch on really hot summer day? I have! Watches made of rubber/plastic or other synthetic materials can also make  you sweaty or sticky in the heat.  A wood watch makes total sense for hot summer days and looks very stylish too!

#jordwatch, wood watches, Jord, timepiece, sustainable wood, cid style file, ootd, unique, stylish, classic, cherry wood,

My boyfriend really liked the watch when it arrived, he already asked to borrow it.  These Jord watches are great for both men and women, many styles are unisex and can be easily worn by anyone.  The first day I wore the wood watch was to my nieces graduation and everyone from my brothers, nephews, sister, nieces and even in-laws complimented and asked about the watch.  It's definitely a conversation pieces and you will get many people asking you about it.

#jordwatch, wood watches, Jord, timepiece, sustainable wood, cid style file, ootd, unique, stylish, classic, cherry wood,

I love the idea of a wood watch, especially when its made of sustainable wood. On the website you can read more about the wood watches and see all the other styles available. I read the word "Jord" is Swedish and means earth, soil, land, perfect name for these earthy stylish watches.  It's great when you can find a brand that cares about quality, craftsmanship and the environment.  Also love they are an American brand who live, work and play in St. Louis MO.

#jordwatch, wood watches, Jord, timepiece, sustainable wood, cid style file, ootd, unique, stylish, classic, cherry wood,

If your looking for a unique and classic timepiece check out Jord Wood Watches.  The come with a cute wooden watch, pillow and 12 month warranty.  The prices are no more than any other designer watch, and in fact Jord watches may be a better deal in my opinion. They will also size the watch band to fit you perfect upon arrival.  You are getting a one of kind watch, made from wood and I am sure not many other people will be wearing the same watch as you.

Summer at Knott's Berry Farm - Fun New Rides and Shows

The opinions in this article are my own. I do not work for, or with, any brand mentioned in this article, nor do I have any official relationship with them.  I have a relationship with GigaSavvy, for whom I create original editorial content.

This summer I'm planning on spending lots of time with my nieces. Two have gone away to college and are home for the summer, another one may be leaving in the fall.  I gotta take advantage and spend some quality Tia time with them! One thing we love to do is spend the day at Knott's Berry Farm.  This month we are taking a trip to experience the new Voyage of the Iron Reef ride, which is now open. From what I have seen it looks so cool. This summer Knott's is the place to be!  So if you haven't heard the scoop on whats new at Knott's, you need to catch up!

knotts, berry, farm, snoopy, buena park, california, summer, fun, iron reef

Voyage to the Iron Reef is the newest ride at Knott's, it's interactive 4-D with 10 interactive scenes filled with menacing sea creatures.  You will find this ride in the Boardwalk section of the park.  Who doesn't want to fight a Kraken Queen and save the park from watery doom. Oh I'm already getting chills thinking about the scary Kraken Queen. Each rider gets a freeze blaster you control and earn points for every creature you freeze!  Now lets see who gets more points, my nieces or I! They may be younger, but I'm wiser and can be sneaky! LOL I will be reporting back on the ride, make sure your following me on Instagram for day of pics and results!

knotts, berry, farm, snoopy, buena park, california, summer, fun, voyage, iron reef

Other activities I am looking forward at Knott's this summer is of course everyone's fave beagle...Snoopy! Snoopy and his Peanuts buddies "go Hollywood" bringing Walk of Fame glamour, dazzling movie lot escapades and California excitement to a brand new ice show adventure. I love the Snoopy on Ice shows and this one sounds like it will be a good one.

I know my nieces will enjoy the Boardwalk Dance Party. They will want to dance until they drop with DJ Howly. I better make sure and wear my dancing shoes. I may have to slip away and go do some Salsa dancing at the Fiesta Plaza Stage.

knotts, berry, farm, snoopy, buena park, california, summer, fun, voyage, iron reef

Or we can just go sit and enjoy the Calico Saloon Cancan Show. Some good old' fashion bar room fun and dancing with French Cancan! Seems like there will be lots of dancing at Knott's this summer.

If its a hot day then will have to cool off at the Timber Mountain Log Ride. It's one of my faves and I am always looking for an excuse to splash around and cool off.  Although I know my thrill seeking nieces will want to ride all the roller coasters. Not sure I have the stomach for them any more, but will see how I feel that day.

knotts, berry, farm, snoopy, buena park, california, summer, fun, voyage, iron reef

There is way too much cool stuff coming to Knott's this summer and it all starts June 13 - September 7, you can get a full list of all the shows and other events here. I'm just a big kid sometimes and already so excited for the new ride, shows and of course Snoopy!

Don't miss out this summer on all the fun and thrilling rides at Knott's. You can also get more info on season passes here, which are totally affordable with payment options. See what everyone is talking about on social media and follow these hashtags for behind the scenes #KnottsIronReef and #NewAtKnotts. See you at Knott's on June 13th!

#UntamedStyle - Zodiac Style

This month my #UntamedStyle sisters and I are back with a fun theme.  We are all so different and diverse, yet have similar sensibilities.  What better way to show our style and personality than with an outfit inspired by our Zodiac sign.  I am not sure how many of you really know about your sign and what it means. Not everyone is into astrological signs and how they relate to who you are and your personality.  I have always been fascinated by astrology and zodiac signs, it helps me understand who I am, but also the people around me. So next time someone ask you "What's your sign"  don't think of it as just some cheesy pick up line. They may be genuinely interested in getting to know you and understand what makes you tic....I know I am!

So after doing some research on my sign (Taurus) and how my style is influenced by the characteristic of this sign, I found much of it to be true and not just fluff!

Here is the basic on Taurus Style:

  • Gentle and affectionate, the earthly sign of Taurus is likely to stick with pieces that are traditional classics.
  • Taurus fashion is all about texture. Only the finest fabrics will do, comfort is key to this senses-driven sign.
  • The Taurus fashion rule number one has to be: incorporate flowers where you can.
  • Taurus appreciates classic looks and sensual fabrics, generally conservative.
  • The Taurus body part is the thorax, throat, neck – you name it, the trunk is Taurus!
So what does this all mean?  Being a Taurus I am partial to more classic styles, comfort is key and texture does come into play.  It it doesn't feel right to me, no matter how good it looks I won't wear it!  I have also always been attracted to floral prints.  Looking at my closet I realized, I have tons of floral prints in dresses, shirts, pants and even shoes!  I also lean more towards natural fabrics and neutral colors.  I have always said I am a hippie at heart, loving bohemian style, but also adding a bit of edge.  I can't be a bull with out being a little bit of bad ass!  My closet is also full of scarves and I am always looking to buy more...well now I know why.  I love a good scarf and always feel comfortable and secure having one.  In the cooler months I make sure to always have a pashmina or some kind of scarf in my bag.  Its such an easy way to elevate and outfit and look stylish.  Being a Taurus is about loving life's little luxuries.  I some how manage to live a very "rich" life on a small budget, which what this blog is all about.  Like the saying goes "it only looks expensive"!  So there you have it a little insight into how my style is influenced by my astrological sign. You probably will not see me with anything too trendy, always wearing similar silhouettes and having a comfy and casual style. I am a creature of habit and stubborn at times, but I know what I like!

I Love Being A Taurus!

So next time you're picking out an outfit or wondering where you taste in fashion comes from, it may be influenced by your sign.  Here is a good website I found that has lots of good info on fashion and signs Star Sign Style.

Here's an outfit I put together inspired by Taurus. I took all or most of the elements of my sign, according to my research. Incorporating flowers, comfort, natural fabric and touch of boho style.

Dove #LoveYourCurls with Quench Absolute Collection

Is your hair naturally curly?
Are those curls real?
Where do you get your hair done?
Would you sell your hair to make wigs?

The questions go on and on about my hair.  I've been asked so many questions in regards to my hair. People want to touch it, they want to know how I get it so curly and how can they get the same results! Well let's set the record straight about my curls!  YES, they are 100% natural and all mine.

Funny thing about my curls, growing up as a curly I wasn't always excited about the hair I was blessed with. My mother is not a curly, my dad is the one with the curls.  My mom didn't always know how to care or deal with my hair, since she has stick straight hair.  She did the best she could, with out having any special products for my kind of hair.  My mom used a brush and water...that is all!  She didn't even know about detanglers, which I needed desperately!  My hair was always neatly combed in braids or pig tails, never loose and free.   I got teased a bit about my hair, since I was one of the few kids to have such curly hair in school. One year I made my mom cut it all off, after having waist long hair for many years.  I didn't know the shorter my hair the curlier it would get.  I was devastated to see it so short, so curly and I basically had a little Afro.   It wasn't always fun and many nights I wished and prayed for straight hair.  My sister's hair is also more on the straight side with just a slight wave, but wouldn't be considered curly.   It was difficult for me to understand why I was different and didn't have hair like my mom and sister.  So many years were spent trying to keep my curls under control and tamed.  Growing up we didn't have any special products for curls...nothing seemed to work just right.  My brother and I even made our own "hair gel" out of gelatin. Crazy!  I slicked it back, put it in a bun, braided and hid my curls as much as possible.

Now I am much more comfortable and happy about my curls. Now I know how to care for my curls and what products work best.  Thanks to brands like Dove who make special products which make my curls look fabulous!  I recently was able to try the New Dove Quench Absolute hair care line for curls. Having the right kind of products for curly hair has made a significant difference, in not only the look of my hair, but also the way I feel about my curls.  My curls are much more bouncy and shiny after using Dove Quench Absolute system.  It leaves my hair moisturized, soft and manageable.  Did I mention it also smells great, which is a bonus to loving your curls.  Now I am proud and happy when people compliment my curls.  A day doesn't go by without people (mostly older ladies) telling me I have beautiful hair and so lucky to have curls.

Here is products I've been using from Quench Absolute Collection:

  • Quench Absolute Ultra Nourishing Shampoo
  • Quench Absolute Ultra Nourishing Conditioner
  • Quench Absolute Intensive Restoration Mask
  • Quench Absolute Supreme Crème Serum
After just a few uses of NEW Dove Hair Quench Absolute my curls look healthier and feel great. These products provide 4X more defined, natural curls. The three part system nourishes hair. The entire line has really made a difference in the overall appearance of my curls.  The formulas, infused with protein, nutrients and Buriti Oil, provide a nourished, smooth finish. My favorite has been the Quench Absolute Intensive Restoration Mask, which has helped with the dryness and dullness. Just like having the right outfit, having the right hair-care can make you feel more confident as well.

It has taken me many years to love and accept my curls.  I have never really liked to straighten, blow dry or flat iron my curls. Maybe deep down inside I knew these curls made me unique and special. That is how people know me and remember me, I'm the girl with the curls!

Dove wants to help all women and girls love their curls.  Did you know that women and girls with curly hair tend to feel less confident.  Only 4 in 10 little girls with curly hair think their hair is beautiful.  Only 10% of women in the U.S. with curly hair feel proud of their hair.  All women and girls should be proud and love their hair. Dove Hair launched the #LoveYourCurls campaign to encourage women to celebrate their curls and inspire future generations to do the same.

Dove has a really cute book, which is a poetic tribute to curly hair.  A love of curls for everyone to be inspired and embrace their uniqueness. Real stories from real women inspired the poems in the book.  It's a beautiful and touching book, written by best-selling author, Taiye Selasi and illustrated by Annick Poirier.  It represents and inspired by curlies of all ages, because its never to late or early to start loving your curls!

You download [and share] a copy of the book to inspire the curly girls in your life. It's easy to create a personalized e-book with a custom dedication and illustration for a curly cutie in your life. Just Visit Dove.com/LoveYourCurls to download the free e-book.  You will love it for your self or make a curly girl feel special.  I wished this book was available when I was a kid.  It would have made a big difference on how I felt about my curls.
