The Makeup Show: Los Angeles

This weekend (March 27/28) I will be attending The Makeup Show in LA.  This year marks the 7th anniversary of The Makeup Show in Los Angeles, bringing together the best from the industry in Southern California.

I am excited to attend as media, this will be my first make up show ever. Growing up my mother didn't wear makeup, so I never really play with makeup as a little girl.  It really wasn't until I turned 30 that I started to get more interested in cosmetics.  Every day I am learning about new products and techniques.  I am not a professional or makeup artists, but I am interested in learning more tips and tricks.  The Makeup Show offers hands on workshops and seminars from some of the most talented professionals. This is where many MUA can also try out products and purchase for their kits.

The Makeup Show is great for networking with professionals, meeting makeup artist and getting to know new brands as well as discovering products. I am looking forward to learning more about application and techniques of applying makeup.  Plus who doesn't like to play with make up all day long.

#UntamedStyle: My Ideal Girl Gang

March is Women's History Month, the ladies of #UntamedStyle decided to write about Girl Gangs.  Not like Cholas from East LA or gangster girls form South Central type of girl gang. I've lived in both of these neighborhoods in LA and have seen these type of girl gangs first hand. These girls are tough and you don't want to mess with them!  No the girl gang I'm talking about is the group of women you surround yourself with, the girls who are there for you no matter what. The girls who have your back and will hold your hair when you puke, the girls who console you after a break up and the girls who make you laugh and cry.

Almost all women have their own little girl gang, a special group of female friends who are your besties and enhance your lives. I've been fortunate to have a girl gang growing up since elementary. My little girl gang has changed a few members through out the years, but it's good to know that there is always a friend when I need one.  Women always need other women to empower, encourage and build each other up. Sadly in the media we see the opposite, women hurting, hating and tearing each other down.  As I have gotten older my girl gang has gotten smaller, and we don't spend as much time, if any with each other. This doesn't mean we are not there for each other. If any one of us needs help from one another, we will all be there to help in a heart beat!

Today I want to create my ideal girl gang, from famous women who I admire and respect.  These women have inspired and motivated me through out my life and in my head would be awesome friends. This is my girl gang!

oprah winfry, drew barrymore, frida kahlo, mindy kaling, girl gang, untamed style, cidstylefile, latina bloggers,

Every girl gang needs a leader, a strong women who can lead the group with out being bossy.  My ideal leader from my girl gang would be Oprah Winfrey.  Oprah is a leader, she is smart, wise and tough.  She can be kind, caring and warm, but will kick butt when she needs to.  Oprah would be the friend you go to for advice, who tell you the truth whether it be good or bad. Oprah would be the mother figure we all need in a friend.

A girl gang also needs one women to be the enforcer, that one tough girl who can kick ass and be the protector of the group. We all have that one friend who would beat up someone for you, who will tell off a dude who mistreats you and who would kick your ass if you mess up as well. In my girl gang that would Frida Kahlo. She was a no fuss type of women, who was a lover and fighter.  She seemed to be a protector of her friends and family. Frida would be the friend who takes a blow for you, but would also slap you around when needed, all done out of love! Sometimes we need tough love and Frida seems like she would have no problem being the enforcer and protector of the group.

Another friend each girl gang needs is the cheerleader, the one girl who is always on your side.  In my ideal girl gang that would be Drew Barrymore, she's that one friend who is always optimistic and encouraging. Drew is fun and quirky, she would be the friend who would make you smile when your sad and give you a hug when your hurting. Drew is the friend who's up for adventure and will convince to do anything.  In my head Drew and I are BFF's and I have the picture to prove it

The last girl in my gang would be Mindy Kaling, the little sister of the group.  All girl gangs have that one younger friend who is the funny, silly and even clumsy.  In my ideal girl gang, Mindy would be that girl. She's funny, and can be silly and sometimes get her self into trouble.  Mindy would be the friend who the whole gang would want to help and save from making mistakes. She can make you mad at times, but with her wit and humor can always make you forgive and forget.

Lastly there would be me, the peacemaker.  I have always been that one friend who is neutral in the group. I am not aggressive nor too passive. I am the friend who resolves the issues in the group.  I am the listener when my girls need to talk or cry.  I am the friend who brings us all together after a fight among the gang. I bring peace, love and friendship to the gang.

Plus Size Universe: Fancy Floral Dress

Can you feel it?  Spring is coming and I can see and smell it every where.  Here in So. California its been warm and sunny with flowers blooming everywhere.  I am so ready for spring fashion and loving the floral trends I have been seeing on the runways and magazines.  I was doing my usual web browsing and came across a look on fashion icon Alexa Chung at the Elle Style Awards.  Honestly I am not really a fan of Alexa Chung, but this look on her caught my attention. She attended the Elle Style Awards, in a flirty, delicate, fancy and floral frock by Erdem.  Erdem is not a designer I was familiar with, but I loved the dress Alexa was wearing.  I also liked she paired the fancy dress with some lower hear ankle strap shoes.  It was a very simple look over all but had so much character with the fancy floral on the dress.   Seeing the Erdem dress on Alexa made me think of spring garden weddings and how this look would be wonderful.  I immediately had to go searching for a plus size version of the Erdem dress.

I have always loved floral dresses, but this one takes it to another level.  I call it fancy floral, wouldn't it be perfect for a garden wedding, afternoon tea or a fancy Sunday brunch? What ever the occasion may be, this fancy floral dress is sure to be a head turner.  The dress is very feminine and flirty and you won't need too many accessories of extravagant shoes to complete the look.

Here is my Plus Size Universe version of the fancy floral dress.

As you can see there is no price for Erdem dress Alexa Chung is wearing, as its not even available for sale. Searching the Erdem website I did find similar type dress, which retail from $800 - $3000.  What ever the price may be, its definitely out of my budget.  Thank goodness for websites like Asos, who has a ton of dresses for more budget friendly prices.  I found this Asos Curve floral dress for only $98. It's obviously not the exact style as the Erdem dress, but it gives the same feminine and flirty floral effect.  Both dresses are sheer with bold floral prints and flirty skirt.  I love the color combination on the Asos dress with the pink floral print and the darker teal background.

What do you think of this weeks Plus Size Universe?  Are you looking forward to wearing a fancy floral dress this spring?

Hope you enjoy my Plus Size Universe feature. Want me to find a plus size version of an outfit for you? Email me and I can help you find your plus size universe. Leave me your comments with your thoughts on this outfit. Also follow me on Instagram for more of my style finds.

Shoe Lovers: Meet #MyANDREAStyle

This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with ANDREA and Latina Bloggers Connect.
All thoughts and opinions expressed our my own.

Are you a shoe lover?  Since I was a little girl, shoe shopping was my favorite.  It didn't matter what kinda of shoes my mom bought me, just having a new pair of shoes made me happy. This still holds true today, a new pair of shoes can transform your outfit and attitude!  I think my love of shoes stems from being able to wear any style or trend and not have to worry if they would fit me, unlike with clothing.  Being a plus size girl growing up, it wasn't easy finding cute stylish clothes.  Shoes on the other hand, were everywhere and they all fit me just fine!

When I was introduced to ANDREA Shoes, a Mexican company it was like a light went off in my head. Being a Latina many of my shoes growing up were from Mexico. Every year my family took a trip to visit our relatives in Mexico.   Each trip meant a new pair of shoes for me as well.  I liked shopping for shoes in Mexico, because they were different than what my friends would be wearing here in LA.  My mom loved them because they were cheaper and better quality than what she could afford to buy me in the US.

My ANDREA boots, love the zipper details, both zippers work making it easy to put on and take off.

ANDREA Shoes has been in business for 40 years, selling shoes for the entire family.  Along with shoes, Andrea has other several brands of clothing and intimates as well.  They are based in Mexico and now in the USA, with 130 branches in both countries.  Through catalog sales, Andrea gives woman the opportunity to buy and sell shoes, to have your own home based business. Become an affiliate or as Andrea calls them "Estrellas" to buy shoes at wholesale prices.  You then can turn around and sell them for a profit.  Who wouldn't want to be there own boss and have a home based business selling something they love.

Here are some of the benefits of becoming an Estrella ANDREA
  •  Additional discounts depending on your purchase volume
  • You’ll have the opportunity to earn bonuses by rewarding your efforts, and the bonuses are like cash which allow you to purchase more products
  • Attractive promotions

These ANDREA booties are so comfy and go great with any outfit.

I'm already an Estrella ANDREA and excited about the possibilities of having my own business selling shoes. ANDREA shoes are stylish and great quality and I can't wait to buy more for my self at wholesales prices. But it would also be great to make some extra cash for selling something I love, cute and stylish shoes! Are you ready to be an Estrella ANDREA and be your own boss? My Favorite Moments From #WeAllGrow Summit

Motivation and inspiration can come from different sources, sometimes it's a quote, a song, a picture or a person. My inspiration comes from various people, especially when it comes to blogging.  Last month I had the pleasure to attend and volunteer at the inaugural We All Grow Summit in Los Angeles by Latina Bloggers Connect. We All Grow is a blogging conference geared towards Latina women, but everyone is welcomed.  I've worked with Latina Bloggers Connect for a few years now on their blogging network. When I heard Ana Flores the founder was creating her own blogging conference, I knew it was a must to attend.

To say I was inspired and motivated by the conference and all the women in attendance is an understatement.  I've attended a good number of conference in my 5 plus years of blogging, but We All Grow was by far the best in more ways than one.  I am sure there is going to be countless recaps, and post about the conference and mine is just a slice of what its all about.  I will share with you my favorite moments and experiences from the conference.  If you are Latina blogger or just a woman blogger I highly recommend you attend We All Grow next year, you will not not be disappointed!

Here are my favorite moments and memories from We All Grow Summit.  Hope to see you there next year!!

Reunite with friends: Monique from Curves and Chaos is one of the first bloggers I met in real life.  When I first started blogging 6 years ago, I felt like I was the only plus size Latina in LA doing this, then I found Momo (that's what I call her) on Twitter.  We began to chat on Twitter and follow each other's blogs.  One day we finally met in person at an event.  I knew we connected and would be blogging buddies forever! Even though we both live in So. California, we don't always get to see each other or hang out. Every time we do see each other its like a blogger reunion.

Make New Friends: Every time I attend an event or blogging conference I meet some pretty amazing women.  This time was no different, I met 2 new ladies who are aspiring bloggers.  They came to the conference to learn and get inspired to start their own blogs. I love meeting new people and being able to help them out in any way I can. Brenda and Dayana are new and fresh to blogging,  I am excited to see them grow, evolve and hope to be able to help them along the way!

Being Pampered:  OK let's be honest who doesn't like to be pampered, spoiled and treated like a VIP! That's how I felt at We All Grow, with all the fabulous treatment we received from the sponsors, like Neutrogena, Dove, Crest and Andrea Shoes. The manicures, massages, facials, hair and makeup. It's was all so fabulous and the products samples were also freaking awesome. I ain't gonna lie I love freebies!

Volunteering: I attended We All Grow as a volunteer and worked for my pass.  It was great way to get an insiders view of the conference and be apart of it.  I was a session lead for various panels. I had to make sure all the speakers were there and ready to speak!  Making sure the panel started on time and everything went smoothly.  Keep time and assist the speakers in any way possible.  Also making sure to share and amplify the panels on social media.  It sounds easy, but let me tell you it can be challenging! During one the panels the projector went out and the speakers had no slides to go with their presentation.  I went into techie mode and tried to fix the problem.  I did managed to get the projector started again, only for it to go out again!  For a second I was the hero of the panel, ultimately the ladies speaking did a great job and managed to finish the presentation without the projector.

The Stories:  We All Grow Summit culminated with Story Tellers.  Six bloggers were chosen to share their stories at the end of conference.  Each women stood on a stage and poured out her heart and soul.  Their stores made us cry, laugh and cheer, ending with a standing ovation for them all. It was all heart warming and exciting to see that we all came together because of blogging.  You can't deny the power of social media and blogging and how it has empowered many women to change their lives.

There is such much more I would like to share about We All Grow Summit.  It was 3 days filled with field trips around LA, delicious food, laughing, crying and many hugs between new and old friends. I learned new things and was reassured of others, building my confidence as Latina and inspiring me to grow as a blogger. This is just a sample of my experience and hope you get a sense of how wonderful this conference is for any blogger to attend.  I want to thank Ana Flores for allowing me to volunteer and all the #WAG staff for making this a very memorable experience.
