Harper + Liv - New Friends In Your Closet

When I get an invite, email or press release for a new plus size clothing line, my heart skips a beat.  I like having options of where to shop and what to wear.  When I was a teenager, the choices where I could shop were extremely limited.  After many, many years of only shopping at maybe 2-3 retailers, I get very excited to have another option.  Today I want to introduce and give you yet another option.  Harper & Liv is coming this May to Dillard's and online.  Its a new modern contemporary collection ranging from $39 - $129.  The collection will have bottoms, dresses, jeans, casual and a few evening pieces.  To me this collection is a bridge between really young jr. plus and mature collection. I think you will like it and will find something everyone.

I was invited to luncheon in NYC for a first look at this new plus size collection.  Although I couldn't attend, the nice people from Harper + Liv sent me these pics to share and give you a first look.

Since I am jeans girl, I am loving these distressed and patchwork denim.  The kimono and crochet ponchos are on trend with a boho vibe. I would totally wear both these outfits. Would you?

tropical prints, pants, crochet, duster, plus size fashion, cidstylefile, dillards

There are plenty of prints as well in the new Harper + Liv line. These pants are very cute and I want to add them to my comfy pant collection!

The prints continue with skirts and added details.  These skirts can easily be worn for many occasions.  I even see an office appropriate outfit with a blazer.

Dillards, jumpsuits, plus size fashion, prints, cid style file,

Jumpsuit are hot for summer and this collection will have a few options like this printed strapless jumpsuit. Pockets are must and great detail to have on a jumpsuit

plus size collection, fashion, lbd, dillards, cid style file, plus size dresses,
You will also see dressier or evening options like this LBD (little black dress) with an embossed print.  I love the style and length, not too short or long. This dress would make a cute outfit to celebrate my 20:20 birthday, don't you think?

Like what you see so far?  To learn more about Harper + Liv collection you can go to the website or find them on instagram too. I'll have some outfits to share soon when the line launches in May.  Let me know what you think of this new plus size line in the comments.

CSF Shopping Adventures - Lilly Pulitzer For Target

Shopping Adventures with Cid Style File
Sunday April 19th, 2015.

Come follow me while I shop and attempt to get my hands on the hottest tropical prints from the Lilly Pulitzer Collection for Target! My local Target was fairly calm, not too many people fighting over clothes.  A few items were still left on the racks and I didn't need to get crazy with anyone.  Most of the items I wanted were gone, but a few cute things still were to be found. I browse all over the store to see the entire collection, but I forget about the beauty section.  Take a look at the video, come join me on my shopping adventures around the store. See something you like?

I will back to posting videos more regularly so make sure you're subscribe to my channel over on YouTube

If you like my video make sure to subscribe, give a thumbs up and share it!

Did you get anything from the Lilly for Target collection?

Plus Size Universe: Tropical Prints

Unless you're living under a rock, you've heard about the Lilly Pulitzer Collaboration with Target.  It came and went on April 19th, shoppers literally went cray cray. The website crashed, the racks were left empty and now its all on eBay for ridiculous prices.  I made my way to Target Sunday morning to see if I could score something from the collection. I got there about 45 mins after the store opened, although I did find a few things on the racks, it wasn't what I was looking for.  I was unsuccessful online trying to get something from the plus size collection.  A pretty white and green satin dress - sold out, the chic blue and white strapless jumpsuit - sold out, and bright floral maxi - sold out!   All of the plus size items, which were only available online are sold out and rumors are will not be restocked. Bummer!  I was excited about the Lilly Pulitzer being the first Target Collab to include plus size, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Even some of the cute accessories I had my eye are gone.  Oh well better luck next time.  Since I am not one to give up too easily, I found some great alternatives to Lilly for Target.  The tropical and bright color prints Lilly Pulitzer is known for can be found at other retailers and are just as cute if not cuter.

So today's Plus Size Universe I will show you alternatives to Lilly Pulitzer for Target plus size collection. Here are some items I found online if you are like me and missed out on the Lilly Pulitzer collection from Target.

Can A Shoe Transform Your Outfit and Your Life?

This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with ANDREA and Latina Bloggers Connect.
All thoughts and opinions expressed our my own.

A couple weeks ago I blogged about a new opportunity, how you can be your own boss with a home based business. Remember Andrea? Well now the seasons have changed and we are well into spring, with summer just around the corner. Now's a great time to start your own business.  I think selling shoes is a great and fun way to make some money, even if it just to buy more shoes for yourself.   If you are like me then shoes play a major role in your wardrobe.  A shoe can completely transform an outfit and being your own boss can transform your life! Plus Size Universe: Denim Jumpsuit

Today's Plus Size Universe look is from Gwen Stefani. Gwen is one of my favorite pop stars and style icons, she has an edgy look, but still looks feminine and not too over the top.  She always looks like the that cool girl. Maybe it's just me, but don't we all want to steal Gwen's cool girl look!  Denim is always a hot trend and this year its the denim jumpsuit.  I love this look on Gwen, she looks comfortable and like a bad ass chica all at the same time.  I am not sure if I could pull off wearing a denim jumpsuit, but I am sure many other curvy girls can.  Here is my version of Gwen's denim jumpsuit look for the Plus Size Universe.
plus size universe, denim jumpsuit, gwen stefani, g star, raw, asos curve, forever 21, plus size style
Plus Size Universe Look: Denim Jumpsuit - $99, Utility Jacket - $32 - Mesh Booties - $18

Gwen was spotted in Los Angeles last month wearing this denim jumpsuit from G-Star Raw ($270), a cool camo parka jacket from Whistles ($115) and a pair of mesh high heel booties from her own shoe collection GX ($109).  Her total look is about $500, which is not to expensive when you consider some celebs wear outfit that cost thousands of dollars.  Gwen's outfit is a modest price, yet still out of budget and size for most of us.  I found an alternative with this denim jumpsuit from Asos Curve for only $99. Couldn't find a camo jacket to really do Gwen's look justice, so instead I found a cool olive green utility jacket from Forever 21+ for only $32.  Then to finish off the look, I found some mesh heel booties from Ami Club Wear for only $18 (with coupon code steal50), which I like much better than Gwen's booties to be honest. My Plus Size Universe look is only about $150.  What do you think of this look?  Would you rock a denim jumpsuit?

Week 1: #30for30Beauty Challenge on Instagram

I did it!  I made it through my first week (7 days) of #30for30Beauty Challenge on Instagram.  Have you been keeping up?  I hope you have, so you can keep me motivated to see it all the way through until the 30th day!

So if you haven't been on Instagram, (which you should be following me here).  I'll give you a quick recap of my mini beauty reviews from Instagram.

Day 1: Vaseline Rosy Lips

vaseline. rosy lips, lip therapy, cid style file, beauty reviews, instagram

There is nothing worse than having dry/cracked lips. It's a major pet peeve of mine. In winter time my lips get very dry and I hate the way they feel and look. I've tried many lip balms and remedies with not much success. I discovered this cute little tub of Vaseline rosy lip therapy. It has really helped the texture of my lips and keeping them soft and moisturized. It has subtle rose scent and pink color. Leaves a light pinkish color on your lips, but it's not too shiny or greasy. Only con of this lip therapy is it doesn't have SPF protection, but other wise it's been a life saver for my lips! Would be nice to have a applicator and not use my fingers but it's not a big deal for me. I've noticed a difference when I apply lipstick too, it goes on much smoother. I like that I can wear it alone and gives my lips a sheen, some light color for when I don't want to wear lipstick or gloss. Bought it at @Target for only $1.99. What's your go to lip saver for dry lips?

Day 2: Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in #Bing

smashbox, bing, cherry, lipstick, #bingtobasel, donald robertson, makeupshow, los angeles, red lips

This lipstick is a collab with Artist and Illustrator @drawbertson who created the jackets for some of the classic colors, like this red. I am not one to run out and get the latest makeup when there is a collab, but this one is pretty good. I got it free to review from @themakeupshow and its my 1st #Smashbox lipstick. I like the creaminess and consistency, although for me it took a few coats to really get the rich red color. One swipe was not enough to really cover my lips. The case and jacket are really cute and a great shade of red. Every woman needs a few red lipsticks, right? One just isn't enough! I do like some of the other colors in this collection and plan on going to get at least one more. I am excited to buy more @smashboxcosmetics since I got my pro discount @TheMakeupShow. Have you tried any of the #BingToBasel lipsticks from this collection?

Day 3: FlowerBeauty Eyeliner

flower beauty, cosmetics, drew barrymore, eyeliner, aubergine, lucky fabb, cid style file

Easy On The Eyes Long Wear Eyeliner in #Aubergine. I 1st heard @drewbarrymore talk about her new cosmetics line at #LuckyFABB conf 2 yrs ago. She specifically mentioned this eyeliner color as her fave. Obviously I had to try it. I am not a fan of eyeliner since I don't know how to put it on and black seems to harsh on me for everyday wear. This eyeliner is a dark purple hue like eggplant color with a slight sheen but not too shiny. The consistency is creamy but not too soft, for me it's easy to apply. It's long wearing and doesn't rub off easily. I like the applicator, it has a built in sharpener too at the bottom of tube you can easy take it out and make the eyeliner pointy sharp! It's become my fave eyeliner and use often as an alternative to black or brown. Wore it in my pic from day 2 if you want to see what it looks like. Available only @Walmart for $5.98 it's a great deal!

Day 4: Neutrogena Eyeshadow + Primer

neutrogena, eyeshadow, primer, makeup, eyes, purple shadows,

Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Eyeshadow + Primer, isn't this a genius idea! I didn't even realize you should wear primer under your eyeshadow. Which explains why my lids would eat up the shadow and by the end of they it looked like I had no color on. I have deep set eyes so my shadow doesn't seem to be as noticeable when I wear it and doesn't last. This eyeshadow has the primer in it and makes it easy to apply with a quick guide on back of package. The quad palette has complimentary colors for lid, brow bone, crease and lash line. The colors are subtle and not heavily pigmented, but I like this for every day use. So far the shadow seems to work and last all day on my eye lids. It's quick, easy and cuts out having to use primer, great for us lazy girls! Only con about this palette is the little cheap applicators it comes with. You definitely need to use eyeshadow brushes for better application like I did. (Brushes picture not included) This palette was gifted to me at #WeAllGrow conference Neutrogena Beauty Suite #gotitfree

Day 5: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

neutrogena, hydro boost, water gel, skincare, beauty, hyaluronic acid,

Neutrogena Hydro Boost water gel, it caught my curiosity. It's a gel moisturizer with hyaluronic acid...huh? Exactly what I said, until I tried it on my face. My skin said AHHHH, the gel feels cool on the skin and absorbs quite quickly with no greasy or shiny residue. The Hydro Boost gel made my skin feel very soft, supple and almost plumped up. I like the cooling effect it has on my skin, especially now that its getting warmer. I've been using it for a few weeks and my skin is soft, smooth and hydrated. Its great for me, since my skin tends to be on the drier side and after the winter months needs lots of moisture. It doesn't have any SPF so probably best to use at night time or apply another type of sun protection if wearing for day time. It comes in 2 formulas (water gel & gel cream for extra dry skin) and easily found at all major mass retailers. I was gifted this product @WeAllGrow conf by Neutrogena.

Day 6: Rimmel London Exaggerate Full Color Lip Definer

red diva, innocent, lip liner, rimmel, london, cosmetics, makeup, lips, beauty review

Let's talk lip liner today and how I use to love it in High School. Sometimes all I used was lip liner and no lipstick at all! So recently I started using liner again and bought these #Rimmel lip liners called Exaggerate Full Color Lip Definer. So I noticed my lipstick started bleeding and feathering around my lip line, especially when I wore red lipstick. I picked these Rimmel lip liner b/c it was automatic and no sharpener needed. It's a bit creamy and soft which makes it easier to apply and doesn't look dry. Which also makes it easier to break if you turn the tube too much to expose the tip. It's best if you expose just enough to see the tip. It's long lasting and full coverage. It's a great deal for only about $5 and sometimes you can find a deal @walgreens for 50% off. I got the red diva and innocent (nude) which basically the colors I wear the most. For the money these lip liners are great and they do last a long time if you don't break the tip too often.

Day 7: Ice Box Makeup Organizer by Sherrie Blossom

makeup, organizer, sherri blossom, ice box, acrylic box, storgae, cid style file

So I have a confession, I'm a messy unorganized person when it comes to my makeup. I keep it every where, around my apt. and don't even know where it all is half the time. So when I was gifted an #IceBox organizer I was thrilled. The lovely people @lorealparisusa gifted all the guest at #GoldenGlobe party a @Sherrieblossom #IceBox. It's a gorgeous acrylic #MakeupOrganizer and just what I needed!! It only took me like 2 months to get it all organized! (I'm also a procrastinator) So today I cleaned out my dresser and organized my makeup! This organizer is beautiful and fits A LOT of makeup, it has several drawers and the top flips open for bigger items. The IceBox comes in different sizes and widths and truly does make for a beautifully and fancy place to store all your beloved makeup! Now I want another one for my jewelry! You can find out more about the IceBox at  How do you organize and store all your makeup?

Hope you enjoyed my first week of mini beauty reviews on Instagram find @CidStyleFile and continue to follow me for more to come.  I still 23 more days to go, make sure your following me on instagram and my hashtag #30for30Beauty!

The Makeup Show LA - 2015 Recap

This is the view from the 13th floor (I know 13th floor, but I am not superstitious!) of the California Mart where The Makeup Show was held in Los Angeles.  The Makeup Show has been coming to LA for 7 years and this was my very first time attending.  The Makeup Show is only open to professional makeup artists and others in the beauty/cosmetics industry.  So your probably thinking, what the heck was I doing there!  I know, I know...I'm not a MUA, pro or guru of any sort.  I was invited to attend as media to share about the event. Although after being at The Makeup Show for 2 days, I may want to change careers.  I do love makeup and seeing all the great products and meeting new people at the show gave me the makeup artist itch! The show is held yearly in LA and also in various other cities in the US. You can go to the website to see the dates for the other shows.

Day one consisted of a media/blogger preview with MUA James Vincent one of the founders of The Makeup Show, and a cocktail party.  During the media preview, James Vincent introduced us to some of the brands exhibiting during the show.  He also gave a quick run down of the seminars and classes being offered during the show. During the cocktail party we got to mingle with some of the makeup artist and brands. We also got a first look at some of the art from Donald Robertson and Ellis Faas. Donald Robertson is artist and illustrator who currently has a collaboration with Smashbox.  Ellis Faas is a legendary makeup artist and photographer, she was the keynote speaker and had a gallery display of her work as well.  It was a gallery opening and makeup show all rolled up in one night.

It was a fun and exciting night with a special surprise appearance by Kat Von D during the cocktail party. She was there mingling, since it would be the first time her cosmetics line is being presented at the makeup show.  I didn't get a picture with her, but caught her chatting with some makeup artist.

Day 2 and 3 consisted of the actual Makeup Show where you can visit the booths and buy products at discounted prices. Many vendors had great deals with up to 50% off their products, and other supplies such as brushes, cases and other items.

Besame was one of my favorite booths, they are a small cosmetics brand who recreates vintage makeup colors and formulas.  The packaging and presentation was very cute and retro looking.  The staff was also very nice and knowledgeable. I wanted one of everything!

The Makeup Show, wasn't all about makeup.  There was a few vendors selling these awesome mirrors with the built in lighting. Some were portable with cases you can carry with you.  While other mirrors were huge and beautiful with built in vanities, and other lighting fixtures for the perfect application.  I need to find a way to get one of these lighted mirrors in my home!

I was happy to see a few skin car brands at The Makeup Show as well. Because every good MUA knows great makeup starts with great skin. My blogger buddy Marlita On The Run was working with Mario Badescu and introduced me to this brand.  The lovely people from Mario Badescu gave me some sample products to test out and I am excited to try them out.  You will see a review about them later on the blog.  I love the natural ingredients they use and the packing is just so simple and minimal.

All the better known and popular brands like Smashbox were there too.  This booth was very popular, since they were letting everyone sign up to get a pro discount with no proof.  I immediately signed up and got my pro discount of 30% any future purchases online...woohoo!

It was a great Makeup Show and I am excited to play with all the goodies I received and bought from the show. I am definitely excited to try some new products and beauty looks. Be on the look out for more beauty and makeup post here on the blog.   We had lots of fun playing with the hotpoint photo booths as well. Check out these cute gifs from the show with Marlita and OMG Bren, 2 of my fave beauty bloggers.

Make sure to follow me on Instagram for my #30for30Beauty Challenge to see some mini reviews of the products from The Makeup Show.
